M1 Garand .308 Conversion Spacer

I have a Breda M1 Garand. I bought it for cheap and since it's Italian I know it's never fired and dropped only once. All joking aside for the price I paid it's a phenominal rifle and despite the weight served me well as a hunting rifle during those lean years as a college student when I couldn't afford anything else. I still keep it for sentimental reasons. I recently gained access to high quality .308 ammunition for very cheap.

I've done a bit of research on the M1 Garand and was suprised to learn the U.S. Navy used them during the Vietnam War but converted to .308 with the use of a sleeve that fit in the chamber. I've seen a couple of them for sale.

My question is how reliable are these conversion spacers and which would be the best one to use?

bccop, from what I have seen and heard, those conversion pieces that fit in the chamber are just bad news. I have a friend that loves his .308 Garands, however, they have the replacement barrels. There seems to be no feeding problems or the like. I have listened to the problems folks have had sticking a '06 cartridge into the .308 chamber.......very unpleasant. It looks as if the barrel change is really the only way to go for consistent, dependable operation.
