I have a very nice 91/30 that I feel could benefit from a scope. While the stock sights would be fine on a battle rifle, I find them lacking for the role of precision. I have purchased a cheap-o mount that uses the rear sight base to attach to. This necessitates an Extended Eye Relief or handgun scope. Any suggestions? As I am scoping a $100 rifle, I don't wanna break the bank on a scope. Variable or fixed are fine, although fixed will probably be the better choice given cost. Give me some suggestions!
Edited to add: Intended purpose of scope would be plinking and target practice.

I have an NCStar 4x32 on my .308 scout rifle and it has been flawless so far, with over 100rds fired since installation.
I picked this model for its extra long eye relief based on where the scope would be mounted. http://www.nightvisionsales.com/product_info.php/cPath/161_164_180/products_id/1570

It may be cheap, but it has some of the clearest optics I've seen.

Looks good, thanks for the pic. Do you find the 4x to be enough magnification for .308? I know .308 and 7.62x54r are very similar cartidges. What is the furthest range you think you would be comfortable with that scope?

I was actually surprised at how well 4x does. At 100 yards I have no problem seeing a 1" bullseye. I really don't plan on shooting past 300 yards personally and 4x does fine out there.
I think your typical scout scope is about 2.5x or so.
