View Full Version : Show me your tools
I am thinking of building my own AR-15 in 300-221. So it looks like I will need some tools.
For those of you that build your own ARs, please show me your tools.
EDITED!!!
Show me your tools for building ARs. I don’t want to see your other “tool”.

On the road so no ability to post pics, but from memory here is most of what I have. If you are only doing a lower, you really only need a couple of punches and a hammer.
- pin punches: 3/32, 1/16
- roll pin punches: 3/32, 1/8
- nail set: 3/32 for FSB
- Bushy action clamp
- Oly barrel wrench
- torque wrench
- snap ring pliers
- hammer
- screw driver and allen wrench for pistol grip
- vise
- pivot pin install tool (handy but not necessary)
- 100-mph tape
- anti-sieze
- Kroil
- bench block and 2x4 pieces
- other misc tools that I can’t recall offhand

Onmilo is doing it the proper way. I put mine together with a pair of vise-grips, (to install the roll pins - I wrapped the ends in electric tape), a Stanley finish nail set and hammer to level the pins off, screwdriver for the grip, proper hex keys for the ACE stock and Troy handguard, and a pair of channel-lock pliers and a piece of rubber to tighten the barrel nut. Seriously. The rubber kept the channel locks from marring the barrel nut. I wouldn't recommend it, but it worked for me. The barrel nut is perfectly torqued (I had a buddy check it for me after the fact), and my gas tube is in perfect alignment with the carrier key. The rest of it didn't require tools and went together by hand. I was too cheap to buy all the tools since I was only going to build one AR. It shoots like a champ. I am building another one and plan on "MacGuyvering/A-Teaming" it too.
I have worked on and repaired more M16/AR15 rifles than I care to count.
The right tools make any job easier if not more pleasant.

Where did you purchase the peace river receiver and action blocks and for how much?
I think brownells has the pierce river set
I bought mine several years ago.
Price was around $50.00 for both pieces.
Brownells still lists them as available and the action block will work with any and all upper receivers.
