View Full Version : collapsible stocks
Talk to me about the best collapsible stocks.
And depending on the price talk to me about the best collapsible stocks for the money.
Thanks
You can go with the improved rib design that most M4'geries come with. Or you can go with some of the premo ones like the Vltor, LMT Mod Stock, Magpul M93(?), and Choate just came out with one that is similar to the LMT model which is a copy of the Crane stock. The latter units that Imentioned offer a better cheek weld.

If money is tight I would just get the Stag 6 position stock. Has a mil-spec tube and costs like $65. I have a VLTOR clubfoot but don't really care for it. If I had to do it all over I would have spent the little extra and got the Magpul 93B or whatever it is called.
The most inexpensive quality collapsible stock is (IMHO) the Stag/CMT. The kit that comes with it meets the original Colt (Mil-spec) dimensions and it fits tight. With its buffer tube you can slap on any other mil-spec stock (LMT/VLTOR/Magpul etc.) Being Mil-Spec might not be important to many but it is to me. At the high end the LMT is a very good collapsible stock with an excellent cheek weld but there are several excellent collapsible stocks available. Do your homework on buffer tubes and compatibility and you can correct any mistakes you might make.

The CMT/STAG is the best value (offer mine with an H buffer). My next favorite is the LMT SOPMOD. Next would be the Magpul stock coming out in May.

I have an ACE SOCOM. It is nice, but if I had to do it over, I think I would go with the Magpul. The MIAD grip to go with it. Magpul makes a very good product. One of my AR's with an ACE SOCOM and a MIAD.

Check this tread at AR15 (http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=12&t=188153) board, where people really know AR $hits. ;)
BTW, I have this one (http://www.glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=531329) for sale right now, if you want.

I use the standard issue 4 pos on my standard issue gov't M4.:) However, the Vltor and Magpul are better designs and worth the money.

Don't mention it. Their loss, our gain.

I love my VLTOR. I'll never go back to a mil-spec. I didn't realize how uncomfortable they are and how much they rattle until I picked up an Armalite with a VLTOR stock. Well worth the money, at least to me.

I have a Magpul M93B on one of my AR's, and am considering their PRS for the other. Great stock, real pain in the ass to fit on my AR.

My milspec collapsible doesn't rattle (nor do the others I've used).... but the cheekrest/battery compartment thing IS nice.

For the stock alone, they are $97. I am taking back orders now on them.

I just got a vltor in the mail it's really nice and solid, I went with the club foot I'm very happpy I'll post a pic. I got it from Eaglefirearms.com for only a $135.00 and free shipping.
I like the weld on the magpuls, but the storage on the Vltor.

I like the magpuls
I use a M93 on my favorite ar15
I've got a magpul PRS for an ar10 that is the S.
Other favorites (non-collapsable) would be a long ACE skeleton on my varminter.
some nice things about the magpul:
- it doesn't rattle. it is totally rock solid.
- it's actually a bit longer than an A2 stock when fully deployed.
- the cheekweld is the same regardless of the stock position. this is the big advantage IMO over the Crane types. none of this cheek half on the tube and half on the stock business, especially if you shoot nose-to-charging handle.
- due to the weight it balances the weapon better if you have a quad rail etc
