View Full Version : Witness 22lb spring too much?

I put a 22lb recoil spring in my Wintess and took it out to the range yesterday. It jammed with almost every shot. Either the slide wouldn't pick up the next round at all or it'd move it about halfway to the chamber and get stuck on the feed ramp.
This was with DT's 180gr HP load.
OTOH, at 25 yards that round would slam the steel plate down so hard it'd bounce itself back upright. Self-setting targets, courtesy of Double Tap Ammo! ;)
Has anybody else had this problem? I've got an 18lb spring laying around so I know I can get my gun up and running as soon as I change springs.

I know this isn't about a Witness but...
I am running a 24# in my G20 and have fed it a healthy variety of loads from 7 or 8 manufacturers and have not had an issue yet.
I currently just got in a Storm Lake barrel and will begin to run it through a torture test when final exams are over.
Hope this helps.
David
P.S. I am also running a 22# in my G27 and a 24# in my 2nd Gen G19 w/o any issues.

The problems I've encountered with a 24# spring is bending or breaking the lock back pin, this in a Glock 20 using DT's ammo, In a recent conversation with Mike McNett at DT about the bending & breaking of lock back pin & 1 trigger pin was that I try a 22# spring. Granted I excusively use full power 10mm ammo & I know this puts a strain on my Glock & when firing full power ammo all the time any weak links will ultimately show up. Now I'm not saying it's the spring however I've also changed the springs in my 17 & 22,(22#) you guessed it, bent lock back pin in the 22, 17 pins look fine. So with all that I'm changing the 20 to a 22# & the 22 to a 20#. That's my 5 cents.

Any update on trying the 18# spring?

Jellybelly, that #22 lb. spring may be a bit too much. You have to remember that the mainspring/hammer plays its part in slowing down the slide as well. Try a #20 and see what happens. If you're having problems with the slide skipping over the top round in the mag, order Wolff H/D mag springs.
