OK, I think I'm going to build an open gun for USPSA and GSSF. Give me some feedback on my project plans.

1. Start with a Glock 22 (1st gen.) because that's what I've got and I can shoot major in USPSA or download more for GSSF.

2. Add a KKM stainless barrel with Glockmeister comp.

3. Add a Glockmeister captured stainless guiderod.

4. Glockmeister competition trigger spring + Glock 3.5 connector.

5. Jpoint/Optima/Firepot optical sight.

6. Add some type of mag well.

7. Get a Safariland 007 holster.

Why not build it from a 17 for 9mm major instead of handicapping yourself on the round count? With a big base on your mags for the .40, you might get 23, for the 9mm you can likely get 29 or at least 28 in the mag. One in the pipe especially if you can get 29 in the mag, you have 30 to go! Of course, this is just my opinion. YMMV! MLM

with my taylor freelance extended basepad, i can get 30 9mm rounds in the mag...plus one in the barrel!

I'm not really interested in 9mm major and the difference in capacity will only count where a stage falls exactly into the capacity difference between the .40 and 9mm, so I will suffer if I need 24, 25, 26, 27, or 28 to finish a stage, but if it's more or less than that the .40 can shoot softer and it can make major with factory ammo if necessary.

Besides, who make a mag extension longer than arredondo (140mm - 23 9mm/20 .40)?

taylor freelance makes an extension for glock mags for open division (170mm).

If you run a comp on it you won't be making major with factory ammo, the ports will suck the gas right out of it.

Somehow, that doesn't make sense to me. You're saying that if I fire the same round through a 4.49 inch uncompensated G22 barrel and the gas disperses instantly in all directions at the exit, it will have greater muzzle velocity than a round coming out of the original 4.49 inches of barrel at the same speed and then going through a compensator that redirects the dispersing gas. Logic tells me that, if anything, the muzzle velocity should be higher due to the fact that the gas isn't allowed to disperse as quickly after the bullet exits the muzzle (without even considering the extra barrel length needed to attach the compensator).

Now if you want to talk about a Glock compensator like on a G22C, or similar barrel porting systems, you would be right, since it is the same length barrel and the C model allows the gases to escape before the bullet exits, thereby obviously reducing muzzle velocity.

Bren,
I like the Barsto Barrels for accuracy a little better than KKM. Consider the Novak Stainless steel guidrod available for the g17/22 for use with Wolf springs. Its adds weight to your slide and its diameter works perfectly with the Wolf springs. Many feel they are superior to the Tungsten guiderods.

I dont know about USPSA, but for GSSF its hard to beat the Novak Stainless steel Bigmouth magwell. aT 6.6 Ounces its a little heavier than the brass magwells, and works great.

The Glock 3.5 connector with the right trigger work is all thats needed. (polishing) the right spots. Its also less expensive.

you are correct. if the barrel is "ported" ( meaning: gas is allowed to bleed off before the bullet exits the barrel ) you will lose velocity. if the barrel is externally comped ( as the KKM is ) you should not lose any velocity at all.

I'm still looking for a mag well, so I'll give that a try. I've already got the KKM/Glockmesiter barrel/comp and stainless guiderod. The workmanship looks good, but I haven't fired it yet.

I have a .35 connector in the gun, but haven't gotten around to testing my trigger job theories yet. I've always been able to improve the trigger of any other gun I've worked on, so I figure I do a Glock just as easy.

Now I need to find a super deal on a fierepint/jpoint/optima sight. Cheaper than a C-more and I don't have rails on this gun, so most above-the-slide mounts won't work.
