View Full Version : 7.62 brass
I was looking into reloading with the price and scarcity of 7.62x39 ammo being what it is. It looks like the supplies to reload are a lot more then actually buying the ammo. I'm looking at midwayusa.com right now and the brass for the 7.62 is $215 for 1,000. I also looked at 2 other places with the price being enough to stop me from getting into reloading.
Right now wolf 7.62x39 is selling for $140.00 per1,000 rds. I really hope it comes dowm as the supply comes in keep your fingers crossed! Good Luck George

IMHO I don't think the price will EVER come down to $90 /case. Two factors that most of us forget : Euro/USD rate and GOLD/USD rate. I don't keep up much with the first, but the FRN TP has dropped 20% vs gold in the last 12 months.
I reload for all my centerfires, including the x39.
I figure that if my MBR is an SKS, and if my MBR is going to also serve as my SHTF rifle, then I want the option of reloading for it in a survival situation.
This is a big part of the reason why I got a Yugoslavian model...that gas valve prevents the hurling of my spent brass into low Earth orbit upon ejection.
This exponentially increases the likelihood that it will actually make it back to my reloading press. And it doesn't help that my groups shrink quite a bit when the thing is running in boltgun mode.
BTW, use Lapua or Remington brass. I bought about 400 Winchester cases with the rifle, and most of them are gone now--not from loss, but from catastrophic failure.
They crack out around the case right where the case head's web thins to become the case wall...and the rest of my supply has a 'ring' around the inside that can be easily felt with a scribe.
I buy Remington 125gr FMJ atthe local retail outlets; it is expensive, but the price is about the same as with the components, only they put them together for you.
I plink with the FMJ, then reload them with good slugs for hunting and defensive uses.
And NOT ONE of the Remmy brass is showing the tendency to separate, some after six loadings.
