View Full Version : Question re: 870 Barrels
Just picked up a nice 870 express magnum left hand w a 28" vent rib, Figured since Im a semi leftie I could pick up an 18" barrel for HD duty. while searching for barrels Im seeing ones designated for left hand guns, Is it safe to assume I made a mistake and a standard remy 18" will not fit?
Thanx
Aj
You are correct, left handed 870's need left handed barrels.
Yeah, I just stripped it and saw how the barrel fits.......So much for my first shotty purchase.....And of course theres no such thing as a left hand 18" barrel.....
For what it's worth, I am left handed as well and I have had no issues shooting my regular "right-handed" 870.
I have never been struck by ejected shells, and for me at least with the ejection port on the right side it is much easier to load a single shell through the port with my right hand.
ZZZ,
Sure now ya tell me....Nah I saw a decent deal on a nice 870 leftie and should have researched first....all my rifles are right handed anyway and I have learned to work around it, just thought it would be nice to have a left hand model... of course now its basically useless to me as i was meant to be an HD gun....live and learn I guess
After further consideration, I think its time to find the hacksaw......

Make sure you measure the barrel properly before cutting! ;) You need to measure from the breech face to the end of the barrel and cut accordingly, DO NOT cut it any less than 18 inches!
