View Full Version : My first born!
I present to you, my FIRST EVER AR-15 build completed last night...
Yesterday morning I woke up with a stomach that felt like crap thanks to the Taco Bell I had the previous night. So I decide to call it a take-it-easy day and went into my office, grabbed my laptop and back into bed I went after spending an ungodly amount of time in the head trying to shake the stomach bug. As I am surfing I am feverously hitting refresh in a browser I have dedicated for the UPS tracking site.
"Is it here yet...?"
"Is it here yet..."
"Is it here yet?!?!?! " ad naseum.
Then finally I hear the UNMISTAKABLE sound of Brown! IT'S HERE!

Can't wait until I open it....

Hmm, "what a pretty box" I say to myself.... but I am left wondering if the sight inside is even prettier. Time to take a look...

Hmm, whoohoo! Time to break out the tools and get everything sarted!

A few trips to Home Depot later and the fact that it took a while to get together aside, I present to you the finished product, Build #1 of 7 total...

Ah, what fun that was! 1 down, 6 more to go!
It is just like Christmas.
Nice set-up. I wish my HD carried all those Dasco punches. They are longer than other brands and easier to work in the AR.

Wow, that's what I was thinking, unless he's 7'6".
Nice weapon though.
While I do have long arms, the foregrip location was temporary. I couldn't get it to where I wanted it last night. Just finished hammering it on. Now minus a tactical light, she is complete...

NICE!!
BTW, move... Just a couple hundred miles east and you could have been living this good the whole time bro!
LOL, Gack... tell me about it. If I weren't so attached to CA, I definitely would have moved by now. But the good life is finally here (somewhat)!. Hopefully it gets better in the next few weeks.
Check out my post in the APO... got any glass you want to sell?

awesome build. where did you get all your parts from?
www.tenpercentfirearms.com -- crappy web site, I know... but that is exactly what led me to them. My company just finished re-designing the site for Cold War Shooters (www.coldwarshooters.com) and one of the partners at TPF wanted to have their site re-done as well after seeing what we transformed CWS into. CWS was along the same lines as the current TPF site before we touched it, if not worst.

The website says, "Welcome to Ten Percent Firearms. Our name pretty much says it all. You pay the cost of the firearm, 10%, tax, shipping, and DROS fees. This results in substantial savings for you the customer."
Is the tax 10%? Or are you paying 10%, + tax? Is this some kind of california thing? I'm probably retarded but if you could, please clarify what this means. You arent paying an additional 10% are you? -dok
ed: Forgot to mention, very nice looking build, and I was curious if it was all Stag or not.

To answer question #1)
It costs them $500.00 (dealer pricing) to obtain an item. They will charge you $500 (dealer pricing) + 10% (their mark-up) + 8.25% tax if you are a CA resident. It's not a California thing, just their business approach. So that $500 item will cost you $595.37 out the door (not including State/Transfer fees if it is a firearm). Add shipping if it needs to be shipped.
Once my company re-designs their site, all the prices will be laid out pretty clearly minus stuff affected by MAP.
To answer question #2)

So why the magpul on a fixed mag?
I second the whole moving thing. I was at a gunshop looking around. I was handling a DSA FAL and a guy next to me wanted to see it. He mentioned he had just moved here (Indiana) from CA. I told him "welcome to the free world" as I handed him the evil black rifle. He mentioned how it was odd to be able to go into a gunshop and plunk down money and walk out with a gun in about 5 minutes. I told his that it isn't odd or wierd but the way things are supposed to be.
Man I am gald I don't have to screw with mag capacity laws (not any more at least), waiting periods, concelad vs. open carry, etc.
IMO Indiana is right behind AK and VT in the gun freedom area.
Pure looks at the moment. But that will hopefully change once our off-list receivers get listed and registered as assault weapons. If all goes according to plan/logic (our logic as gun owners, not political logic), then we will be able to take three turns with an allen wrench to the fixed mag kits and be back in free-state configuration.
I'm actually not using the sporting conversions kit though. I bought it with this setup, but bought another as well. With the sporting conversions kit, you remove the mag catch spring and replace the mag button with a different type. With the kit I bought, it uses all the same parts + an additional part that allows it to function normally depending on the notch it is turned to. Three turns one way and I have a button, three clicks the opposite way and it's fixed. Satisfied me while meeting the letter and spirit of the law.

I know a guy who might be selling an AimPoint; he just picked up an Acog.
I've got an aimpoint coming in for one of my other builds. I'm looking for more of a rifle scope that will be interchangable with my FN PBR XP (24" .308 WIN) and either an AR varmint setup or an SPR setup.
I am probably going to go with a Super Sniper in a few months once I have some funds, but for now I have an offer for a Burris Fulfilled II for $125.

Thanks for the offer, JB. But right now I'm looking to stay at $125 or under so I am sure that is out of your league and I do not want to make a lowball offer to you. I am just looking for something temporary/inexpensive that is reliable (Burris, Simmons, Sightron etc.) but not absolute crap until I am able to buy the Super Sniper or somthing nicer in about two or three months.

Burris will serve you well for years. They're the only scopes I'd consider to be on par with Leupold's.

A friendly reminder, folks. Eric does not want any buying/selling/trading posts outside of the Want Ads area. PMs and Emails are okay, but not posts in the discussion areas.
