I just shot some 7/8 ounce Rem 3" High Velocity slugs and they are defintely a handful...I dont even think they were magnums...didnt say it on the box...anyway...everybody at the range thought I was shooting a cannon :)

Federals 3" 1.25 oz slugs hurt. 547grs.

Brenneke's 3" 600gr slugs aren't as bad.

But also Brenneke 1oz slugs are easier on the shoulder than Winchester or Federal 1oz slugs. I'm not sure if they are just going slower or have a better wad design. Perhaps both?

I'm sure someone here as tried the 2oz slugs that are available in 10 guage.

Federal 2 3/4" 1oz slug is a good balanced, accurate, and powerful shot for home defense and law enforcement purposes.

No need to go higher than that. It just hurts more (for the shooter).

Brenneke makes the most powerful highest velosity slugs on the market.

Brenneke's have been the most accurate for me, and have a little less recoil.

I haven't tried Federals new slugs with the accurizing ball yet. Have any of you?

BRI Police dicarding sabot steel slugs, I don't believe they make them any more.

My only reason for my shotguns is for bear defence.... in that capacity they are loaded with 1.25oz federal 3" magnum foster slugs. let me tell you out of a 14" remington 870 they leave a mark. :) :)

I have 3 shotguns for bears, 18" Marine Magnum, 20" 590Sp and the 14" 870P.

out of all of them the mossberg is the nicest to shoot because it is so heavy when loaded especially with 6 in the side saddle and 4 in the buttstock.

Just for sheets & giggles I picked up some 3" Brenneke magnum 1 3/8oz slugs...This should be fun :)

You know what's really fun? Shooting slugs off a bench. Shot 20 rounds of Remington Copper Solids out of my Marlin 512 off a bench rest one afternoon. It hurt. One 3 shot group at 100 yards went 1.25", BTW.

Lightfield Hybred EXP 1-1/4 oz / 546 gr can do some damage, on both ends.

So Vyper005, How did those slugs work out for you?

I got ahold of some Winchester 10gauge, 3" magnums. Those hurt like hell, no clue what the grain or anything was, but damn... they hurt.

Remington Buckhammer hurts like a mofo but it works as a wadcutter on paper.

Either Lightfield or Brenneke make a 3 1/2 slug. I'd say that one hurts. I've got some 3" Winchester Magnum slugs and they are pretty vicious.

Sauvestre 3 inch Magnum sabot slugs... 1900fps and 3230 ft. lbs. of muzzle energy. BOOM!

Unfortunately, they are no longer imported into the USA (French made). My friend gave these slugs to me, as his family owns the company which imported them. He's checking into whether he can get me more, but you won't find them for sale here anymore.

I like shooting huge, fast 12 gauge slugs every so often, just for the fun of it. For any kind of defensive work, I have Ranger 2.75 inch low recoil slugs.

EDIT - I just looked up the Brenneke KO sabot slugs, which I haven't shot... but the fps and muzzle energy is rated at 1673fps and 2686 ft. lbs.

If someone can find me something as hot as the Sauvestre slugs that I can find for sale, I'd like to know. The Sauvestre stuff is painful, yes, but it's fun to shoot. Sounds like a bomb going off!

Flipping through Midway's selection of 3 inch slugs, Remington's Slugger ammo comes closest by the numbers to the Sauvestre stuff.

SVTNate,
Here's the stats on the Brenneke's...

This Brenneke, with its full 1 3/8 ounce lead in 12 gauge, delivers 25% greater knock-down power and penetration compared to standard 2 3/4", 1 1/8 ounce slug rounds.
When you're looking for the heaviest, hardest hitting, most accurate slug for your 12-gauge smootherbore, look no farther than the Original Brenneke Magnum."A True One Hundred Yard Slug"
