Yugo SKS feed issues

Ran about 200 rounds of mostly Wolf HP (a few something Bear FMJ) through my Yugo shooter-grade SKS last weekend. About halfway through the stash, I started having some failure to feeds, usually towards the bottom of the magazine.

Occasionally, the next round would stick with the point of the bullet to the bottom right of the chamber. I'd have to lock the bolt back, reseat the round the magazine, making sure it had more elevation this time, then let the bolt go. Also on occasion, the last round would fall down into the magazine.

I had cleaned it late last week, and I thought I had been careful to make sure the gas system was nice and dry. Is there a chance I was just shooting lazy? I let someone else borrow it for the last clip, and it ran just fine for him.

Take the trigger assembly off.

Take the Mag off.

Clean the mag assembly, lightly oil (Rem Oil works great) the mag.

Clean and lightly oil the trigger assembly, do not take it apart.

Assemble it all back very carefuly. Make sure you can easily swing the mag down and up to the mag catch.

Try FMJ ammo. I have a Yugo SKS, love it. I got lucky, mine eats hollow points just as easily as FMJ.

The mag was the one part that did not get carefully cleaned last week. If I cleaned it at all, it was a pretty quick job. And the previous shoot had been another 200+ rounds of Wolf, so it might be pretty nasty in there.

BTW, in the two previous outings, probably 500 rounds of half FMJ and half HP, I had never had a single issue. I'll clean it up more carefully and see how it runs.
