I'm looking at doing my Kimber in either...
1) Guncoat: (KG Industries) which I can easily do myself, as I have everything necessary. Slide in Black, frame and most of the hardware in dark grey.
2) Nickel: Have a great place just down the street from work that we have do tons of plating. Can probably get it done pretty economically.
3) Hard Chrome: Have to send it out for this, as I'm not aware of a place locally that does it. Prolly send it to Tripp Research.
4) Other Options/Ideas you all have?
Here's my Kimber

Moly resin looks to be some really tough stuff from what I've heard, if you're looking for one of the newer coatings. Hardchrome is still very tough to beat though. I'm very happy with the hard chrome job done by Tripp on my Springer. I'm thinking seriously about the moly-resin for my S&W.

I just had one done in Black-T that I'm very happy with. You can call Mr. Birdsong and he will explain the process and generally talk your leg off, he's a nice Mississippi good ol' boy.
Hard chrome is probalby the best for a durable finish, I just don't like the whiteish silver look of it. Check out Pangris' post on his new build, it's as nice of a hard chrome job as I've seen.
Or you could just hit your flats with some 320 grit and give it the brushed look.

I thought about that. If I go that route I'll surface grind the flats so they're perfectly flat, as now, they're not that flat. I may do that anyway.
I tell ya... It's tough working in a totally modern machine shop... ;)
BTW... Since I did a fairly aggressive blend on all the corners on the gun (Probably a .02 rad.) it won't look all that good with posished flats. It sucks, but not as bad as sharp edges.
I'll check up on the Black-T
NP3 from Robar.
Birdsong's Black T is awesome too.

first why arent your flays on the 1911 flat?unless a train ran over it or something insane like that.next imho your gun looks as new.why refinish? last if your gonna then go with a first class nickel platting.it has a deep rich look that hard chrome or polished SS can only wish they coul;d replicate.
I've had 4 guns done by Cogan and one by Tripp. I believe Cogan's work is better.
