Making a G17L Safariland 007 work for a comped G22.

I am building a Glock 22 based open gun and I used a KKM barrel with compensator that gives me an overall slide length of about 8.5 inches. I'm looking for an inexpensive holster that will work with this to get me started and I can get Safariland 007's for around $60.

A Glock 17L has an 8.85 inch slide, so it's a little more than 1/4 inch longer than my gun. Safariland makes a 007 for the 17L and I was thinking about giving that a try.

Here's my question - how critical is exact barrel length in a 007? If you have a G17 007 and you put a 19 in it, will it work or is slide length critical?

If the holster is holding it in the trigger guard/ejection port area, I figure it should work, but if it holds the end of the slide I might have a problem.

Bren - I'm shooting a G24 out of a 007. The 007 has an open bottom with no adjustable muzzle platform. The weapon is held by a combination of tension on the trigger guard and a loop-strap which goes across the front of the holster down towards the muzzle.

My G24 is long enough that the muzzle extends below the bottom of the holster over 1". My G22, on the other hand, fits into the holster very well but the muzzle comes just even with the bottom of the retention loop.

If your comp is no wider than your slide, and no deeper (from top to bottom) it should fit the 007.

I don't recommend the 007, though, for pistols that extend out the bottom of the holster like my G24. I use one, but I will be changing to a CR Speed soon. I don't recommend the holster for longer pistols because your first movement on the draw is straight up to pull the muzzle up and out of the bottom of the holster. With a shorter-barreled pistol, the first motion is more up/out, towards the target, which I think is a faster draw.

The 007 is quite affordable, however.
