View Full Version : new 1911 on the way!
i ordered a Kimber Custom TLE II from AJC Sports Shop (ajcsportshop.com). $775 shipped. matte black finish, meprolight night sights, no accessory rail. i have 750 rounds of ball ammo sitting in waiting at home, and i have hogue wraparound finger groove grips, spare grip screws, and 3 chip mccormick stainless 8rd mags with rubber base pads on the way :)
i'll post pics asap. i'm so excited :)
what are yall's thoughts on the custom tle 2?
Butcher, It is exciting getting a new gun, I should know I've been too excited lately, I soon have to caln down. But not till I get my second 1911, maybe a Kimber Raptor or S&W light weight model SC.
I know you'll just love your new Kimber Custom TLE ll, it sounds as if you have just enough ammo for your first outting with it.;)
Have fun and be safe,

Congrats on the new purchase! Mine has been flawless, I'm sure you will love it.
750 in one outing? maybe, maybe not. i tend to get tired after 350 rounds. perhaps if i take a lunch break and come back afterwards to finish off the ammo :)
i meant to add this... since i'm in maryland ("the free state") my FFL is required to transfer my gun to me only after an internal locking mechanism has been installed. he says it's removable, but necessary upon completion of the transaction. any idea how to remove these? he says it's almost identical to SA's integral locking mechanism. i just hope he doesn't take my mainspring housing and replace it with some other rinkydink POS MSH.
Just kidding about the 750 rounds. I don't know anything about the internal lock for the transaction, it sounds strange, maybe someone more knowledgable about that could inform us both.
Dennis
my dealer called me to say the kimber arrived at his shop today and was shipped to my FFL immediately thereafter :) not long before the gun stork brings me my new baby :) :rollsmiley:
I picked up a TLE/RL II in January and love it...enough that I'd like to pick up another one (just without the rail). It took a few hundred rounds before it really started grouping well, but it was certainly "combat accurate" out of the box.
Let us know how the sights are...my TLE/RL II shoots to the left pretty bad at 25yd...groups great, just to the left (and a little high, but that's me, not the gun)

Mr Butcher,
Howdy! Congrats on your new Kimber. I have the same pistol and love it. Have over 1k rounds through it by now. It's my nightstand gun. Accurate as all hell. Went to a friend's farm and was popping a 10" x 14" steel plate from 108 yards hand held.
Only problem, if you want to call it that, is that the brass pretty consistently dings the top of the slide on the right rear corner of the ejection port. Gunsmith monkeyed with ejector shape and extractor tension, and we finally gave up. He told me that some 1911s just do this and simply dabbing a touch of cold blue on the marks takes care of the problem. Many posts on the 1911 forum regarding this particular situation and although some have sent the pistol back to Kimber, it functions flawlessly and it's a combat weapon, not a show piece so I elected to live with it.
AJC is local and they're at the gunshows. I've done a lot of business with them and they're good troops.
Enjoy!

The TLE II is a great gun. I foolishly sold mine, and have been casually looking for one ever since. I recently found an old Kimber Royal (yes, a Royal, not a Royal II) NIB. I'm in the process of buying it, and I'll feel much better with a nice Kimber in my safe again.
My gun arrived at the transfer dealer's shop and i finally had time to go inspect it on Saturday. apparently, they dont open your package because they want to cover their own asses incase something is wrong with what was shipped to them. they opened the package and unsnapped the kimber case for the first time. hot damn! the gun is pretty! i was under the impression that i'd get two factory mags, but there was only one. oh well.
the dealer racked the slide to get the orange barrel plug out while i fiddled with the other contents in the case. i found the fired shell casing and a cable lock with keys as he began talking about the integral locking mechanism he has to "install"
i was like, "what about this locking mechanism that came with the gun?" holding up the cable lock. he said "no i'm sorry, i have to install one that fits onto the gun in the chamber. i have to sell it to you, but i'm not going to tell you what to do with it once you take this home"
i responded "i wont say exactly what i'm gonna do with it, but it involves a trashcan" at this point the shop owner was fiddling with the gun trying to decock the hammer. he said "i'm not exactly sure how to work this thing, i'm only familiar with my department-issue glock". a friggin MONKEY is familiar with a glock. it takes a true moron to not understand that you cant pull the trigger on a 1911 without depressing the grip safety, which is what this clown was doing. i could see he was really yanking on the trigger, so i said "here lemme give it a try" and promptly took my gun from him and released the hammer gently.
i can take my gun home on the 25th (next thursday). i was prepared to take pics of the gun in its case (had my digicam in my pocket), but i was so excited about seeing it for the first time that i completely forgot to take any pictures. i'll just do that next thursday once i clean the gun.
ordered two mec-gar mags direct from mec-gar's website and promptly cancelled the order when i noticed a glocktalk member's website offering the same thing much cheaper. bookmarked the site and i'll order those later cuz the cost of the transfer fee, MD State Police fee, and the integral lock were more than i anticipated (my friend who works at the store quoted me a $20 transfer and he would install the lock no charge, but he wasnt there that day, and the owner charged me $35 transfer fee and $20 for the lock)
Can you post a picture of the integral lock his installed? Is it part of the gun or a magzazine that can be removed and added to lock the gun.

A lock?
Must be a State requirement.
But it sure sounds like your getting screwed with the "I have to sell it to you bull". The cable lock can and does go through the chamber.
Feed the cable through the barrel. I'd challenge them on it and don't be afraid to mension the States Atorney should look into it.
It's bad enouph that your jumping through hoops to get the pistol. But blatantly ripping you off by forcing you to buy something that the manufacture has to supply in order to sell the pistol in your state is a scam!
i'll see what i can do about it... now how do i get in touch with my State's Attorney? :P
EDIT: emailed the consumer complaints section of the Office of the Attorney General of MD -- consumer@oag.state.md.us
I recently purchased a handgun from out of state and did all the paperwork to transfer it through a Federal Firearms Licensed dealer here in MD. This past Saturday the gun arrived in Baltimore, so I went to inspect it and finalize paperwork for the MD State Police. The shop owner, Bill, told me that in addition to the FFL transfer fee, and the MSP background check fee, that I would have to pay $20 for an integral locking mechanism to be attached to my new gun.
I special ordered a Kimber Custom TLE II model 1911 from a shop in Texas and specifically requested a locking mechanism and fired shell casing to be provided to make the gun Maryland-compliant. The gun was indeed shipped with a cable locking mechanism that disables the gun (it is fed through the magazine well, up through the open chamber, and locked down by the magazine well by completing the loop, so that the action of the gun cannot close to fire a cartridge).
Is Bill allowed to charge me the additional $20? It seems petty, but I've purchased a gun before in Maryland with a cable lock, and the package was passed on to me without any additional locks being tacked onto my bill. Something seems fishy, and I want to get to the bottom of it. How shall I proceed? Can I refuse to have this additional locking mechanism installed and receive a refund for $20 plus tax?
i bet i look like a moron to theh OAG now. check this article out that i just found:
http://www.mcdl.org/triggerlock.html
The Omega Internal Gunlock requires no manufacturing modifications to the firearm to achieve compliance. When the consumer removes the gunlock to use their gun, there are no mechanical gunlock parts left in the gun.
All gun manufacturers will again be able to sell semi-automatic handguns in Maryland. The process is simple: you need to supply a fired case in the "specified envelope" along with an Omega Internal Gunlock, which will then be installed by a licensed Maryland firearms retailer prior to sale and delivery of the gun to the customer.
Many congrats my friend;)
picked up the gun an hour ago. will make some gun pr0n for yall tonight after i clean her up :)
by the way, the locking mechanism is retarded. the best i can describe it is as such... a bullet-like cartridge with a torx bolt head fits in the chamber, and with a closed slide you insert a long torx wrench down the barrel to open the locking mechanism. it expands so that the slide cannot open, however the trigger still works (so u gotta be careful not to let the hammer drop on the locking mechanism (it's not a snap cap!))
once engaged you can remove the torx driver so that the gun appears to be "normal". nothing protruding out of the gun or anythin, you just cant rack the slide. all other moving parts work fine

Jeeze Louise, the crap you put up with. They don't allow you much dignity in MD, do they?
When I bought my Colt here in Florida, I had Bud's gun shop in Kentucky send it to my local FFL. She did not open it before I got there.
When I got to my FFL, I opened the box (not the FFL) and no one in the entire store handled my gun except for me.
After the gal filled out her own FFL paperwork for the transfer in her little book, I left with the pistol, without anyone else ever handling it. Because I have a FL concealed carry permit, there is no waiting period.
You folks need to organize and vote out those MD commie scumbags that set up those rules. If that's not possible, get the hell out before they do something worse.
i'm planning on it as soon as i finish college next year. i wanna go somewhere dry and warm. maybe texas or AZ. screw MD

With TX you get your pick of about five different climates, depending on where you move to.
Florida is warm but it ain't dry. ;)
here's to tide yall over until i can upload my camera's pics to my home computer. i took this pic with my phone and emailed it to myself. i apologize for the crappy quality :P but at least you can see the grips and grip screws i put on. totally changes the look and feel of the gun!!

it shoots like a dream!! put 350 rounds through it today for my first time out with it :) first bullet hit the X and i finished out the mag by tearing out the X-ring. i immediately set the gun down and turned to my friends to say "you'll have to excuse me, but i'm gonna be a while with this thing!" and finished out all 6 mags i had loaded up. throughout the course of firing those 350 rounds between the four of us, there was only one malfunction (if u wanna call it that)... a failure to eject on the 2nd or 3rd round that my coworker fired. i blame inexperience and not the gun, because it was his first time shooting pistols ever, and i had him working on the compact 9mm for only a couple minutes before i switched him to the bigger, meaner 45
it's almost not fair how accurate the gun is, and the trigger is so clean and crisp. i'm in love <3
one of my customers from work (who's actually an avid shooter and quite fond of 1911's) was at the range and let me test fire his MP-5 (WOW that was awesome!!!!!). i told him to come with me so he could try out my Kimber. he said he loved the way the grips feel, and that it was one of the most accurate factory guns he'd ever shot, and the trigger felt like it was about 4 to 4.5 pounds. he told me (and i quote: ) "this one's a keeper man, don't sell it or you'll regret it forever"

I'm happy for you. The Kimber 1911 with an internal extractor is a masterpiece.
I got mine during their mad flirtation with the external extractor. What a piece of junk!:frown:
Now that Kimber's executives have recovered their sanity and are making real pistols again with internal extractors, happy days are here.
