View Full Version : Thinking Practical Shooting book- Saul Kirsch..... Opinions
I am really struggling with myself here to spend $36 (with shipping) on a paperback book.
Anyone have this book? How is it? Worth the money or not?
Thanks!
I have the book and love it. I've made more improvement in the last 3 months than I did in the 6 previous. Whether or not the book is worth it to you depends on several things:
1. How skilled are you now? This book doesn't work on mechanics at all except for the section on swingers. It's focus is solely on the mental aspects of shooting.
2. How commited are you to following a practice program on the range and mental training as well? We all know that simply reading a book doesn't do anything by itself. You have to put the work in to be sucessful. I shoot twice a week myself
If you have read "With Winning in Mind" by Lanny Bassham(excellent book BTW), then this book is in the same vein. Plus, it's written by someone who participates in out sport. So it's specifically geared to us.
I really like the material on setting up a practice plan and following it. Getting more out of our practice is something we all want to do. $36 for the book is worth it, in spades.
It's a fabulous book and is up to date, lots of good info and covers all aspects of practical shooting. If you only buy one book on this subject make it this one.

Is it better than the Brian Enos book?

No. Not even close.
I have it, I like it, I picked up a few interesting nuggets of info from it, and don't regret spending the money on it.

I wouldn't say either is better than the other, they both address practical shooting from the mindset aspect but I liked Sauls book as it doesn't get as "deep" in the mind thing and was easier for me to read. You can learn something from both books but if you only wanted to pop for one I would make it Sauls book.

G'day from "Down Under"!
I purchased it when I got home from the World Shoot in Ecuador last year.
It's definitely an easier read than Brian's book, but after reading Saul's I'm going to read Brian's again.
If you've just started IPSC/USPSA I'd definitely recommend it! I've gotten a lot out of it.
Cheers
