Found this one at a local gun shop and picked it up. Seems funny to see a plain slide and no pony.

I find the "Colt's" interesting. That's a nice pistol by the way.

O-R-H Yeah, I thought the whole syntax of the SN was interesting. Some limited run made for some LE community, or as presentation pieces?
Nice regardless.

The shop could not tell me any history or who had it before me, but I would like to find out where it came from...

Colt has a long history of making limited edition pieces, usually in batches of 100 to 500. Usually commissioned by large distributors, like Lew Horton, Accusport, or Colts custom shop itself. The Blue Book lists those sold by Lew Horton, but I didn't see yours, so I cant tell you alot about yours. A call to Colt with your serial number can give you basic info...

Put a call into Colt and they'll be able to tell you when it was made and how large the run was.
Great carry gun! :patriot:

Colt seems to of let a few unusual variations slip out the door, not just limited runs.
I have a SS Lightweight 1991/Series 80 Colt Commander. Yours looks like the "Enhanced" version of my pistol, with different slide markings. I've been slowly but surely setting mine up the way I want it.It is my daily carry for CCW and will be my duty pistol. Ray

I like that a lot. I agree you should contact Colt and get the history on it. I think you got a pretty good deal for $750 by the way.
