View Full Version : Mauser help
I have what appears to be a Mauser 98K carbine with a broken firing pin. Anyone know anything about replacing it? I know it's not going to be as easy as replacing a Nagant's firing pin but I would like to get it back into shooting shape.

What appears to be a 98K? I stripped my 98K to give it a good cleaning not long ago. Not overly difficult with these instructions. See if yours looks like this:

Problem is that someone rebarelled it and sportorized it. I plan on replacing the barrel, not sure on what caliber tho. All i could see was the eagle of Germany during ww2.

Replacing a firing pin on a 98K Mauser is easy to do.

While were talking about K98's does anybody know where I can get a barrel band retainer. I bought one and didn't notice it was missing.

Since we're on the mauser topic, where is a good place to find a K98 for a decent price?

I bought mine from Classic Arms. They had K98s that were Yugo captures for $140. Its a K98 that has the markings removed and a Yugo crest stamped on it. Its in damn fine shape. Some bluing wear but NO pitting and the bore is a mirror.
They also have non-captured K98s at $200. The original markings have been removed off the receiver and ring but they have not been remarked.
Either of these are TRUE K98s without the collectability of the markings - basically damn fine shooters without paying for the Waffens. If your more of a collector than a shooter pass on these though, just be prepared to spend some more loot.

Right now, I'm looking more to shoot then to collect. Although the emblems would be a nice touch, I'm looking for a good "true" shooter. So long as it's a good period 98, markings won't much matter.
