Considering a G30

My gun-dealer friend has a LNIB G36, he offered it to me for $450 (he has it priced at $489) Good deal or no? I'm looking for my first CCW.

Where can I run this pistols' serial number to see what generation/year of manufacture it is?

Also, I've read that the .45 has less penetration than a 9mil is that correct?

Are subsonic loads available for the .45? Any opinions about Hornadys' TAP ammo, or is it necessary in a G30? From what I've read the G30 soaks-up quite abit of recoil.

The price is nothing special. Maybe reasonable for a dealer to make a little money. New is around $525 here.

New handgunner? Spend half the money on a 22 semiauto and shoot about 5K rounds. That will take a week or two. Then you will know if you want a centerfire handgun. Then have patience in selecting a CCW weapon. Many choices and the G30 is only one.

I'm new in the sense of combat shooting and CCW, I've owned handguns for years and have shot several, but I'm kinda taking it to a new level. Good advice though.

AHH! Then the G30 is an excellent pistol. I prefer the G33 for carry. The G30 is about the same profile size as the G19/23 and the slide is wider.
