View Full Version : New sniper
Well I just got the sniper Nagant I ordered from AIM today. It's a 1926 Izhevsk in 91/30 configuration with a PU scope. The scope is definately off, I'll have to sight it in at the range. The stock was varnished 2 different colors so I stripped it down and will be refinishing with BLO probably. The bore is so nice it's unbelievable, the trigger is damn crisp and the bolt definatly works well. I'll have a range report next time, not a bad deal for 363 shipped.
I called tues and was told they no longer had snipers.
So SOG got my money. It's a gun I just had to have:cool:
I paid about the same with shipping and hand picked.
I'll also post how the gun looks and shoots. The gun might come fri or mon.
The reticule on mine was off like you wouldn't believe, makes me think it was sighted in using the scope and not using the mount.
I got my sniper and it came without the scope mounted.
It looks like they cut in the mount and then wraped up the scope for shipping. The scope is new no doubt, easy to see.
The rifle is in VG to EX shape.I have no problem with it.the bore though not perfect,is in better shape then my Ex. sniper.
For the price I'm very happy and expect a good shooting rifle(if the rain stops)
Yeah the same thing here. Only thing is the stock is a Ukranian refurb and the reciever dont match the scope period(1926). Wish they hadn't put a scope on this one but oh well at least it has a good bore. PS your scope might have to be ground to fit the mount, http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.jrn.columbia.edu/studentwork/cns/2003-04-11/images/massimilian2.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.jrn.columbia.edu/studentwork/cns/2003-04-11/208.asp&h=188&w=250&sz=16&tbnid=NZs9vS5XeHxdDM:&tbnh=79&tbnw=106&hl=en&start=1&prev=/images%3Fq%3Drifle%2Bshooting%2Bstance%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DN
I have a 1942 Izhevsk sniper.
I feel the gun is a true sniper with a new scope added.
The sniper bolt #'s match the barrel, mag and butt plate #'s.
The gun has a classic look of carried alot yet not damaged or shot till the rifling is gone. How you expect a sniper rifle to be treated and the common wear marks from carried more the shot.
The bolt the reciever and the magazine floor plate on mine match too, doesnt mean a thing. Look on the stock for a symbol, a box with a diagonal slash. That represents a refurbished rifle. And look here for more info: http://www.mosinnagant.net/sniper%20section/default.asp
Unfortunately I buggered up one of the elevation screws when I was trying to zero it in. Gotta buy a tap and die set to rethread for a new screw.
That is were I'm lost. They only had turn down bolts on snipers. The numbers are stamped not electro scenciled(sp)
And the 1942 date matches the years the real snipers were produced.
I have what looks like a large C that is the remanufactured mark. But the rest of the marks are very hard to read since the run had a large amount of wear like someone carried the gun one handed right over the marks.
I feel that list of Mosin marks is not complete.I have a bunch of marks I sill have not found on the list of pictures.
More reseach is needed on my part before I can post further.
I gotta agree with the list being incomplete. Is it a Tula or an Izhevsk? Yula didnt ramp up production for the sniper until 43-44. What does the reticule look like? Does the mount have grind marks on it?
1942 Izhevsk
No grinding at all.I really like the mount fit it looks very pro.
