Gibbs jungle carbine No 5

Just brought it home a little while ago. It's marked:

GIBBS
RIFLE
7.62mm
R.F.I.
1968

It has a synthetic stock and a finish that looks like satin nickle. I have no idea what the finish is. The bore is nice and shiny and no pitts that i could see. I got the rifle, a scope mount, a 10 round pack of ammo marked "NATO BALL, INDIA" a 20 round box marked "INDUSTRIA ARGENTINA", 6 packs (10 rounds each) of gun store reloads, a 20 round box of Hornady 150 gr SP, a 20 round box of Winchester 150 gr Power Point, and a partical box (11 rounds) of the same Winchester ammo.

It cost me $160 and a pair of Sony 6x9 3 way speakers (they cost me ($53.95 otd on sale).

I think i just found my new deer rifle. I can't waite to get to the range.

Did you check the muzzle wear with a bullet?
Where was this carbine built? Can you tell?

Super find, by the way. I'd also like to see pictures, or at least more description of markings, features (sights, stock length, butt pad, sling, etc.), and eventually, how it shoots.

I've had my Gibbs quest rifle in 308 for several years now and I love it. It's my Jeep rifle, just like yours except mine has the wood stock, the finish is electroless nickel if I remember correctly. The Gibbs scope mount is crap don't put it on!! It'll fall off after just a few shots, otherwise sounds like a sweet find. Mine is a very good shooter too, does yours have the muzzle brake? If so be sure to wear hearing protection as it is very loud with the brake.Enjoy!

I have the Quest II extreme carbine, great shooting carbine...scope mount is worthless. Is it just me or is that enfield front sight just a little thin? My nagants front sight is easy to pick up..the Gibbs not so much. I want another Gibbs.

The NATO BALL, INDIA ammo is junk. I would not recommend shooting it in your rifle. The stuff is famous for erratic loadings, poor crimping, signs of high pressure, ect. I would just pitch it.
