View Full Version : "Best" OWB Holster for a P9?
Well, I've given up on IWB carry until I lose some weight and/or get new clothes.
So I'm asking, what is the best (your favorite) OWB holster for a P9?

I just noticed an IWB holster that BusterDog talks about in the "I'm not sure if I want a PM9 anymore" topic. I looked it up at the FIST website and I am quite impressed, I'm going to get one. Maybe its what you're looking for?
Otherwise, I am pleased with a Don Hume JIT belt holster, $27 from Gunnersalley.com. I also have one for my S&W J-frame, inexpensive but not cheap.

A HUGE fan of FIST's kydex OWB holsters here... I own one for each of my handguns... I chose the #7 "pancake style" myself, but really haven't meant one I didn't like yet. (My local FFL shop is a FIST "Stocking Dealer".)
The cool thing about FIST is that almost 100% of EVERY holster they make in leather can be had in kydex!
Here's my Kahr P9 Covert in its kydex FIST #7 along with its matching kydex double mag holder:

I'm very fond of the Mitch Rosen (http://www.mitchrosen.com) Upper Limit (UPL) it is a straight drop high ride pancake that holds the pistol very close to your body and high enough that you can conceal under a short jacket such as a bomber jacket. I carry an MK9 and a 1911 in this rig.
I only have a photo of the 1911 rig. I'm very happy with his SOS mag and light holder too.

If you plan on actually hitting the gym to lose that weight (something I'm doing right now) then Don Hume can accomodate you with a few good holster choices, as stop-gaps, for not too much money. I've got a couple of their offerings (one IWB H715-M & one OWB JIT) and I love 'em both.
@ michigun: I'm a fan of Fist, as well, (I carry my Kahr 40 Covert in the #1 clip) but only have experience with their leather. Part of the problem I have with Kydex is because it usually doesn't give like leather. Is your rig rigid? Or does it give (is it flexible) like a leather holster?

Nah, kydex is kydex so it doesn't give like leather, but seeing how FIST uses fairly thin kydex it does have some give to it... more give then lets say my Sidearmor holsters.

I use to carry in nothing but kydex but now due the leather thing. A little more comfortable than kydex. So much I pretty much sold off all my kydex holsters. I plan on making myself a leather IWB if I ever get some free time to replace my last kydex (shirt tucker). I also go OWB 70% of the time due to comfort. I really like my K&D Defender. My P9 covert is what I usually carry.

Definitely hitting the "health club" and "restricting caloric intake". Between me, my wife, my doctor, a family reunion and a big ticket vacation, I have more than enough motivation.
On the Kydex vs. Leather, I started out favoring Kydex, until I spent some time with it. Now I'm leaning towards Leather, as I find it more comfortable.
I have to say that in my experience with holsters, you usually get what you pay for. I really like my Mitch Rosen belt slide for my P45. I have used Don Hume JIT, but I only like it for polymer guns as heavier ones tended to flop (that may have been my belt as well).
Losing the weight will help you overall anyway, so keep at it. Maybe get yourself a really nice IWB rig as motivation;)
I would highly recommend three holsters-
K & D Holsters "Cheyenne Defender"

K & D Holsters "Laredo Defender"

or the Alessi CQC/s

Good luck!
