OK I give up on the Wifes 1991 Commander
the Barrel bushings keep backing out and tying up the gun
the notch in the slide has the groove peend out and I am not putting any more cash into it(at least not this slide)
SO which is the best .22 conversion Marvel or Ciener?
I will put it into permenent .22 training duty
I don't have much experince with Mavel, but I can tell you forget the Ciener..

My Marvel has been perfect. Do some research, I think you will find the Marvel highly recomended.

Marvel is a very accurate upper. My only problem with them was service after the purchase - I couldn't get the sight ramp off mine, I wanted to mount a scope. I called them and they said send it back and we'll have it fixed in a day or two. I sent it back, it was six weeks before I saw it again - and that was only after I'd continued making weekly calls to them asking what was going on. They were always "too busy" to get to it. When it came back I sold it, I didn't feel like I didn't want to deal with them again. One plus, they're easy to sell.
I would never deal with Ciener again, even if their kit was the best in the world (it isn't), and it was 1/3 the price. They are the rudest, most obnoxious people I have ever delt with. Go with the Marvel, or the Kimber (for around $200), and it works great.
I have the 22 conversion from Kimber and I was told it is Ciener.
It shoots very well and I believe it is as accurate as the Kimber 45. Very nice to shoot. ZERO problems and more forgiving of ammo than my 22S.
Kimber has been making their own conversion kits for quite a while now. Only the very earlier ones were Ciener. If yours works, it's probably a Kimber.
A friend tried a Marvel on various high-end 1911's, and it was a jam session every time he used it. The Ceiners I've seen were no better.
I've used CZ's conversions on a couple of their guns, and they were accurate and reliable, but they ain't available for 1911's.

My buddy's printshop is right down the street from Ciener's shop in Cape Canaveral. This is the dialog he told me...
He walked into his shop and politely asked about his Kimber kit...this is the response he got...
"You don't want it...it aint got no sights"
He was selling his leftover Kimber kits at a good deal, so my friend was still intrested in seeing it as he had a set of extra sights and wondred if it would fit.
"Your wasting my time, you aint gonna buy it."
He left after letting Ciener know basically what you said...even IF his kits were the best, he wouldn't buy anything from him now.
Keep in mind that this is a second hand account and I'm just relaying what my friend told me. I've never met Ciener or used any of his products (and probably never will).
Sounds like the typical Ciener responce to a potential costumer....
The customer leaves, swearing never to deal with those ***holes again.
I have a Ciener kit that I bought 'right'. Had to polish the chamber a bit with JB Bore paste, and it is flawless.
I talked to JC when I was having problems with the kit. He asked what frame I was using (alloy Fed-Ord), and about had a stroke! He told me to get a Colt frame, and everything would be roses....
He finally allowed that "one of the guys" might not have got the chamber specs right, and that if I polished it, it should work OK.
Bottom line - I have an alloy frame, alloy slide .22LR 1911 with a 15 round mag that is a hoot to shoot. When I do my part, I can pop clay pigeons at 50 yards with it.
Marvel makes two units; the Unit 1 is the match -target- extremely accurate version.
Mine is very good but the mags need some tweaking - with the mags that work I can fire hundreds of rounds without a hitch - I use CCI standard velocity.
There's also Advantage Arms - they make a conversion unit for the 1911 but I've never seen one or know anyone who knows anyone who's seen one, kinda like the Gideons - there's a bible in every hotel room but I've never met a Gideon.
I have an AA unit for a Glock - it's good, a little ammo fussy and not a target gun but I like to shoot it.
I got mine on sale at Midwayusa. Works great on my Springfield.
I'd heard they were Cieners, I'm glad to know they're not.
