View Full Version : thought i had my problem fixed...
p40. slide stays back after the first round is fired from a full mag.
thought it was the slide stop, so dottie sent me a new one. the problem seemed to stop for a while, and now it's back.
throughout my range visit my staple gun proved to be way more reliable, only 1 ftf and the magazine is HUGE.
but i started looking at it, and i think the nose of the next round inline is being forced by the mag spring and interfering with the slide stop.
i may try new magazines... maybe mine are widening at the top???? and allowing the rounds to move up a C.H. or two.

More information please...
When the "slide days back after the first round is fired from a full mag." is the slide stop engaged?
Does it only happen when the initially chambered round is fired and the first round off the magazine is fed?
Do you chamber and then top off the mag?
It could be ammo touching the slide stop. This sometimes happens with 1911s. I've not heard of it before with Kahrs, but that's not saying it's not happening.
What ammo?
Have you tried others?
How does it do with regular factory hardball?

Warmrain and Tork,
I had the problem with ammo touching the slide stop with some of my reloads. I adjusted my loading dies to solve my problem. Others have removed a little metal off of the slide stop where it contacted the ammo. Just don't take off much.
Good Luck.
yes, the slide stop engages. but only on the first round or two loading from the mag. i am not topping off. but if i shoot one, then top the 6 round mag back up to 5, it does it again. i never seem to have problems deeper into the mag than one shot.
i am also hoping i can just do some quick filing, but since it's only happening with the first rounds, i was thinking the mag spring compression was doing it, IE pushing the round up too hard and hitting the slide stop.
i was just making holes so i was shooting wwb and rem umc. i should try it with jhp, there seems to be more room in the chamber are when jhp's are there. and i dont think they'll hit.
i'll shave her down, and see what happens
thanks

Yes, it sounds magazine spring related, not ammo. But messing with the spring may cause other problems in feeding. I think if it were mine I'd take a little off the slide stop in just the right place. Take as little off as possible and try again. Make it an iterative process. You're working in an easily replaced part so no worries...
Let us know...
i think i got this pig kicked....!!!!
i filed down my slide stop and all the problems are gone.
i put 100 rds of wwb jhp
and 100 rds wwb fmj
no failures at all.
i'm psyched.
and i bought a range membership so i can plink at any time, and no longer feel that i have to spend a whole hour..

Great! This is not a totally uncommon problem with some semi-autos...
Happy to hear you had good results!
