Honda People,

I have a stock 1998 Honda Accord (2 door coupe) that I use for a winter car.

In warm enviorments, I have trouble starting the car. (starter turns over but engine does not fire). If I leave the windows open a bit (let heat out) then the car starts up.

The local Honda dealer said the problem was with the battery (battery was only a few months old). They also said only 6 volts was getting to the computer. The battery did not fix the problem.

I think it is the main relay that is bad.

The problem is that I am unable to locate the "main relay".

When I went to Autozone to order one they could not find any mention of a "main relay" in their computer system.

Can someone tell me the location of the "main relay" and if possible the part number I need to order?

I don't have access to alldata anymore, but I can tell you that it was behind the driver's kick panel on my 1990 CRX, and that I was having the same problem with intermittent crank and no starts.

under the drivers side fuse panel on my 94 civic as well....its like a gray or light brown 2x2 cube, not sure about the accord, would assume its in the same area, but you never know.

I had a '93 Accord that I replaced the main relay on. The relay was mounted way under the dash on the driver's side against the left side panel. You have to really contort to change that thing out. You may want to verify the location with a local Honda Service Technician.

I am not sure on the your year model but on my 1990 Acura they had troubles like you described and the problem was the Main Fuel Pump relay. Its located under the dash on the drivers side.
