Only difference in the M9 and 92FS is the stamping on the frame.

M9 has dot and post sights. Furthermore the M9 has a straight duscover, unlike modern 92FS which have a more rounded dustcover. Even more differences is the fact that the M9 does not have a stainless barrel finished in Bruniton. It is a carbon steel barrel finished in a similar finish that is on the frame. Might want to take a look at an M9 again before you say stuff that isn't right.

The CTC grips will fit fine on the M9 or the Model 92FS. The US Army has purchased a large number of those grips for the M9 pistols in Iraq.
As others have mentioned the M9 has several slight and small differences from the 92F model it came from. The original sights on the 92F were the Bar/dot type. The M9 kept those sights while the factory went to the three dot system for the 92. Curently Beretta makes a basic sight with places to put the paint for either the three dot system or the bar/dot system. The current M9's for sale have the new sight.
One aspect of the M9 that is different is the military requirement for assembly numbers to be stamped on all of the major parts. The original Special Edition M9 had all the ASSY numbers the same as the GI guns. The 475th year run of M9's had most of the assy numbers but not all. The Current M9 commercial version has some of the original assy numbers stamped on some parts as well as plastic coated parts and a plastic guide rod. The lastest version also has hex screws for the grips.
The original M9 Special edition is now worth a premium since it came with a set of web gear in its package.

The 475th year M9 had some extra papers and a pin as well as a green plastic box. Nice shooter and I have had two of them.

The current M9 for sale is almast as good as the first two but not my cup of tea with the plastic and modifications to the original design as adopted in 1984. The price you were quoted is a fair price. you can do a little better but many are being sold for $550 to $650.
It is a good design and a solid performer. Enjoy yours. :)
