View Full Version : Add-on Rails questions (a bunch)

I am thinking of adding a rail to my Para P16. I know of Dawson Precision and Caspian Arms having rails that can be attached to the dustcover. Are there any other makers? What do you have on yours? What is the best one to get? Some have multiple crossbolt cuts and I heard the DP has just one. Which is better to get? What light do you have on your gun? Can one rail cover all lights, as long as they are the Picatinny type attachment? Who could install it for me?
The lights I have in mind are the Glock Tac Light w/ LASER, Surefire X200, or one of the Insight Tech lights (have to go to their site to check out specs and stuff). Which is the best for the money? I am kind of on a budget.
Thanks. Sorry for all the questions.
Check out the MR07 from Surefire. No drilling required. ;)

$150? Ouch!
I was hoping it was only fifty, or less. $150 can buy me a lot of ammo/magazines, or a pretty nice Surefire flashlight. Doesn't really matter anyway. I rarely have my Surefire and M3s on my G19, G37, and Bushy AR... Pretty much, if I wanted a 1911 with a rail, I would of bought it with one.

Thw Dawson can use only the X200 light made just for the Dawson, it is not a picatinny spec rail. It is, however, the slimmest and best made rail.
The Caspin is a good rail, but considerably bulkier. It is a picatiny spec rail, so nay light will work.
The Surefire is far too bulky for me, and requires the use of a special slide stop.
Brownells has an add on rail as well, that mounts to the dust covers. I have not seen one, so I cannot comment.
then the surefre is ,like 250 bucks.man 400 bucks is a long way twords another gun.same with optics.i want the 600 doller scope with 200 in mounting hardware.then i consider how much money that is and allways end up looking at another firearm.my little

I'm going to get the Glock light. My dealer has them for $88 OTD.
I'd rather not use the Surefire; I like my EB Hardcore slide stop and don't want to give that up.
$50 for the Caspian rail, maybe $15-20 for a drill and tap, then $88 for the light is about $158 total. Then I'd have to get a holster that would fit, which is another $50 or so. I think CTAC accepts 5" railed 1911s. So I could have a rail put on my Para, a holster, and a light for about $200 and less than a SF X200 bare light. That is probably the route I am going to go with.
