View Full Version : Any Kimber Tactical owners?
It's getting to be 1911 time again...I've fought the urge since I bought my first one in January or February (can't remember which, oh how time flies). I am leaning heavily towards another Kimber, but maybe just a notch up from my TLE/RL II.
I've been looking at the Tactical Custom II and Tactical Pro II. I definitely want a non-railed gun this time also. Does anybody have experience with either model? (please save me the internal vs. external extractor crap as well, my TLE has an external that runs like a raped ape)
I feel like if I get another Kimber this will probably be it, although I'm also looking at a couple of other manufacturers.

I chose my Tle over the tactical for several reasons when I bought mine. My Tle already came with night sights and I did was add a S&A mag well and it was just as good as a tactical but with a steel frame. Also don't need the ambi safety which the tactical has and my Tle does not. So in the end it was an easy choice for me.

I don't want another rail gun though, and it seems like it would be wrong to get one without it.
The desert warrior is HOT though.

If the warrior had a checkered front strap then I would say it's equal to the Tle and Tactical but it doesn't so it's not.

when buying a kimber, do you change the hammer and sear right away? or you leave it stock. coz we know that kimber's hammer and sear are made of MIM... tnx!
Probably depends on the individual.
At the moment my TLE/RL II is completely stock. There is certainly a lot of MIM paranoia out there, though.
...and external extractor paranoia.
...and firing pin safety paranoia.
...and all sorts of other paranoia.
Said screw it and picked up a Tactical Pro II at the gun show today. Put about 80 rounds through it on the way home and no problems...and it's even got that evil external extractor.

whats the difference regarding 1911 small parts like hammer and sear etc., made of MIM or CAST? w/c is more durable? mim or cast? tnx!
The general consensus is that cast is better. If you search the boards for "MIM" or go to 1911forum.com or another 1911 site, you will read some of the paranoia.
It seems like quite a few of the people that have actually made an effort to beat up guns with MIM parts haven't really had that much more luck than a gun with cast parts, but I may have missed all of the bad reviews.
It's like a lot of things though, it goes from "it's going to break fast" to "it's more likely to break" to "would you want to take a chance with it breaking in a gun fight" as time goes on.

That will probably be one of my next 1911s, but a 4" filled a more pressing need right now. I really like the way the finish on the Warrior feels (Kimpro), it seems like it would clean up very easily.

tell me about the chip mccormick hammer and sear performance if you know it. tnx!

I'm not sure who's making the hammer and sear, but at least the hammer appears to be the same as the one in my TLE/RL II (skeletonized stainless type). Both have run awesome through 2k rounds on the TLE.
I'll be taking the Tactical out today, however the right side of the ambi safety jiggles a little bit (didn't notice at the show), and upon taking it apart I discovered that a small part of it had broken so there is some play in the right side and it won't disengage all the way. Desptie my previous post, this is probably an MIM issue, but just an excuse to switch to a standard safety (the ambi doesn't fit well in one of my holsters.
