View Full Version : Shot my new P45!!!
I didn't get to take it home with me yet because I don't have my permit, but I paid for it and got to shoot it! My only problem with the gun was it kept throwing shells into my face. At one point I almost didn't want to squeeze the trigger in anticipation of having the shells hit my head. I was shooting with my left side forward (like a fight stance). Should I be standing differently? Any tips would help!
Hmmm....I don't have that problem with mine. It ejects rather forcefully, but it goes over my right shoulder.
What ammo have you tried?
I was shooting 230 grain S&B. I only put 50 rounds throught it. Maybe the spring just needs to be broken in or something.
Take a look at the ejector (steel piece on frame on left when looking through top from the back when slide is locked open)
It should be flat and even.
Maybe try something else, it may not like S&B ammo.
I finally got to take my P45 home today. I took it apart to clean it and was disappointed in all of the machine marks inside the slide. The barrel looked like it was caked with gun powder residue so I tried to wipe it off only to find out it was more machine marks. On the slide wall by the ejection port, the finish goes from really smooth to really rough, like sand paper. I am tempted to take my pistol to a competent gunsmith and have them smooth out these markings as I have heard too many horror stories of Kahr's "it doesn't have to look good to function" attitude. Sorry about the rant. Yes my gun looks good on the outside and runs smoothly and reliable but the inside job is unacceptable!

Shood god ammo and not S & B. you might try shooting something smaller in grains such as 185's
You made me look.
Mine mas machining marks on th inside of the slide too. It runs flawlessly, shoots very accurately, and conceals where other 45's won't, but it does have those darn machining marks.
Oh well....
I'm just a little upset that for $700 I got some poor workmanship on the machining.

Be happy guys. I have no machining marks on the inside of my slide. Problem is, the slide REFUSES to lock open on an empty mag. Both mags. I have a PM9 and a P9 that are perfect. I'll probobly have a local smith look at it rather than spend all the $ to send it in to Kahr. I'll carry it if I don't want a backup mag. If I do, it sits in the safe.
I enlarged a Colt Officer's mag from a 1911 that feeds excellent, but sometimes fails to lock the action open too. I just count to 7 and reload.
Somethimes the Kahr P45 magazines need some breaking in. One of my P45 magazines always locked the slide back properly, but the other one frequently didn't. The more I used it, the better it became and now they both lock the slide back when empty.
FWIW, when I was having this difficulty, I emailed Dottie @ Kahr and she immediately sent me a new magazine follower. The funny thing is, it's still in the package because I didn't need it after all.

Let's see, you've got a good gun that works well, but you found marks that nobody can see, and now you want to get it worked on....
Did I get that right?
Sorry, not trying to be smart, but I've learned (painfully) that "If it's not broke, don't fix it."
It is possible that you'll get the machine marks out, but have a gun that's no longer reliable.
Then, you'll be sending it back to Kahr (on your dime)and waiting.
It may or may not work when you get it back.
Now, I would try some other ammo, and see if the ejection problem clears up. That would bother me.
Machine marks, I could live with, if I had a relable gun.
Good luck.

I must be still living right -- once again, the inside of my slide is as smooth as a baby's butt. The only thing I've noticed is a little "flashing residue" around the rails at the rear of the frame...nothing the break-in or a little work with an X-Acto knife can't cure.

Same problem with me on the P45. Both mags. Kahr told me on the phone that it will probably be resolved with a new "slide stop and slide stop springs" which they would send.
FWIW, my PM9 is also perfect now.
I still get beaned on the head with my P45....I am going to do an updated range report (I did one when I first purchased this gun) and report my last range trip with this gun.
Well I managed to fire another 50 rounds through the gun and it didn't hit me in the head as much. This time I used Independenc ammo I got for free when I purchased the gun. Is it me or does everyone else thinks the gun has really light recoil being a .45?
