Stock refinish on my 91/30

I got this 91/30 a few months back, and the stock was ugly as sin.

Well, I finally got the cosmo cleaned from it enough to stop the bolt from sticking after 30 rounds, and I decided that I really appreciate the way it feels and the way it shoots.

This rifle is very accurate from a rest, and I shoot it better than I shoot any other rifle that I own.

So I decided that I'm tired of it being so ugly.

I stripped, stained, and urethaned the stock today. It should be dry by tomorrow. I'll post pics the first chance I get.

I wanted to keep the "antique" look, but get rid of the "ugly".

I stripped it with BIX Spray-on Stripper (WalMart), then sanded and steel-wooled it smooth.

I then stained it with Minwax "Special Oak 224" stain, and put a coat of Minwax clear satin polyurethane on it.

I'm pleased with the result.

very nice. i got a mosin in dire need of attention like this and a #4 mk1 enfield that needs attention also
