View Full Version : A few K9 questions
Hi all,
I am considering purchasing a used K9. Long story short, I bought a P40 Covert, loved the trigger, loved the nice slim design, HATED shooting it. After 1 or 2 magazines, I ended up with a painful raw spot at the base of my thumb. Same problem with a rental CW9, so I'm guessing the poly frame Kahrs just don't like me, so I want to try a steel frame.
1. The only K9 I've seen for sale locally appears, from the SN# sticky above, to be pretty early production ( AE prefix). Any issues with these guns? I'm not sure if the gun is "blackened" or "blued", and I'm concerned about rust.
2. The stock grips, IMO, make a thin gun wider than it needs to be. Are there thinner grip panels available either from Kahr or aftermarket?
Thanks for your help.

I had an earlier blued K9. The grips are indeed wider than a P series gun, but they fit your hand ever so well. I too did not like my P40, but the P45 I now carry daily is just a tad longer and wider and just as comfortable to shoot as my old K9. I never had a issue with rust on my blued K9, but admittedly, I wiped it down everytime I took it out of the holster at the end of the day.
The only reason I got rid of it was to fund the P45 purchase.;)

I have the E9 the el cheap o version of the K9.and it has the black oxide finish. I would rate it almost like blueing but not as pretty as blueing. Never had and rust issuses and its a great shooter I have put about 18,000 rounds out of mine.As far as the 40 Covert, never shot one of those. I had a MK40 great carry gun and a royal pain in the butt to shoot.I have a K40 now but I like the gun but not the round. I can shoot 9mm and 45s in groups under 2" at 15 yards all day but give me the K40 and the best I have gotten was 4" groups. As far as going froma 40 to a 9 I personally don't matter much to me as long as what ever it is I can shoot it accuratly every time. I think you'll enjoy shooting a K9 and carry wise its only a 1/2" longer in the grip. Hope thats helps out.

Well, I went ahead and bought the K9. Took it to the range yesterday for the first time.
I was amazed at how well I shot it! The first target,at ~ 7 yards was as good as I shoot my G19, which is saying a lot. The K9 is a little heavy, but feels great in the hand. I've been carrying it in my pocket all day, and while I certainly am aware of it, it's not as bad as I'd expected.
I'd still like some thinner grips, though.

Purchased a used one today also. Will shoot it next week when I can fit time in the schedule. It feels and carries well. Congrats. Now to the range...
