After 15-years of 9mm and .40S&W, I finally made the plunge into .45ACP. Having shot my brother's new G30 2-weeks ago and blowing up stuff from 60+ feet out, it was all I could take. I bought one last week, shot it yesterday, and I could *NOT* be happier with it. I ran 200 rounds through various pistols yesterday (P9, G19, XD9, and G30), but I found myself enamored with the G30. Nice trigger, points great, soaks up recoil like bats on mosquitoes .... plus, no failures. I would feel completely comfortable carrying it right now or for home defense. Somehow, the trigger on my G30 is 'better' than the trigger on my Gen3 G19. I can not explain it, but it is better. Less effort? My brother's G30 trigger is also better than the trigger on his G19. What gives?
The 9mm recoil is obviously very tame, however, I found the recoil of the G30 to be completely manageable. I think the recoil is softer than the G23 I used to have. If I could afford it, I feel like I could put 500 rounds through it in one sitting. My shooting partner (former 82nd AB) was especially impressed upon shooting it. Plus, I don't think he was too happy with his poorly maintained 1911 with bad springs!
One of my good friends is an advanced Glock armorer, so I'm certain I'll be getting night sights soon. Any suggestions? Hi-Viz? I do like the fiber optic sights. Tru-Glo?
