This is a US Army training video from 1966. Despite it's age it covers the basics very well. Basics that haven't changed a bit in the last forty years. For anyone new to the AR platform this video should be mandatory viewing.

For some reason the link won't work from here. When it opens in the error screen just type in "XM16E1" in the search menu.

Thanks. This will come in handy. You can't use a tool effectively until you know how it works, how to disassemble it, and how to operate it.
I'll upload it to my server so you can link directly.

edited to add ...
Guess they didn't teach "keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire" back then.
Also ... I could use some help ... Looking at my selecter, I cannot find the "auto" position on my RRA, whats up with that?
Thanks for the video, it was very interesting. I wish I had seen that a couple years ago when I ha no idea how it worked.

That's bettah
:highfive:
I still don't understand how the auto sear catching the hammer prevents the disconnector from holding the hammer back. And how does the auto sear release the hammer? :(
Maybe someone could let me borrow one to see how it works? :)
