View Full Version : scope mount for flattop AR?
I have a Bushy 20" A3 Flattop, that I want to scope. I'm leaning towards a Leupold VX-II 3x9, which has a 1" tube. The rifle will be used primarily for fun at the range (100 -200 yards). What do people recommend for a mount? Wilson Combat has this one:http://www.wilsoncombat.com/r_lo_mount_scope_mount.asp Know anything about it? A lot of places sell some $10 to $20 mounts, but I don't want to get some piece of junk.
Does anyone have experience with the VX-II (or a similar Leupold)? This is kind of new territory for me, so any advice will be appreciated.

Rock River and B-Square make a one piece mount with dual rings. I think the Rock River mount is a little better mount. Either will work fine. Anywhere from 45 to 75 bucks for either, just depending on where you buy it.
This is a Leupold VX II on my DPMS with the RR mount.

That Wilson mount looks just like the Rock river with a couple of cuts in the riser. Get the Rock River, you won't be disappointed.

Armalite sells a very nice single piece mount. Model EX0027 or EX0022. Look in the lower right of the page linked below:

If you want the best, there is only one choice.

Freeze N/Sarge:
I like the Rock River. Stupid question: I assume it puts the crosshairs up high enough to clear the front sight, so as not to have to remove the front post or anything?
Jay,
The Rock River mount places the crosshairs at the same plane as the iron sights. If you are using a magnifying scope, you won't see the front post in the scope. I have 3x9's on my coyote AR's that my son and I hunt with, and we don't see the front post. I also use a 20" with a 1.5x5 on it for some 3 gun, and on the lowest poser I can see a slight blurr where the front post is. It still doesn't affect the sighting, you just notice it in the scope.
I also have one of the Armalite mounts, but for me, it sits a tad too low on the receiver. I have to cock my head too far to the side to use the Armalite mount comfortably.
Here are some pics of the Rock River on the left and Armalit on the right.

Sarge:
I didn't realize that about the front post disappearing; thanks for the edumacation. I think I'm sold on the RR; I like the wider ring contact area compared to the Armalite.

Same as Sarge. I cannot see the front post in my scope either.
The B-Square just has 1 screw on each side instead of 2. No biggie, it would still be as secure, and it is the same height as the RR from what I recall.
I just ordered the Rock River. Thanks for the help, guys!
