View Full Version : Cosmoline Replacement
I have a "spare parts" yugo 59/66 that I would like to put back into long-term storage. I would like to store it in a manner that would allow for rapid deployment should the need occur. I do not want to cosmiline it back up...
Any thoughts?

Buy a mylar gunstorage bag. Clean and oil your weapon. Place in bag with a couple oxygen absorber bags, and a dessicant pack or two. Vacuum seal the mylar bag. Voila!
In time of need... pop open mylar bag, insert stripper clip, rinse and repeat...
Vic303, got a good source for these bags and such?
Thanks,
~Zip

I ran a quick google search on "gun storage bag", and here are the top few results:

And here's one from Brownells: http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/productdetail.aspx?p=1154

I have used the Kleen-Bore Inhibitor bags, and can vouch for them. They work well out of the box. They are awesome if you use the method Vic303 mentioned.
I am always saving the little dessicant bags we get with purchases. I recondition them in the oven, and reuse them in our firearms and preparedness supplies.
If you have a Food Saver vacuum machine, you can custom fit the bags. I did a test on a 10/22 that way. Put it in the pouch, and put it in the bathtub overnight.
 "Honey, why is there a rifle in the bathtub???"
"Just conducting a test, dear."
"Um, okaaaay......"
Bone dry the next day when I cut the pouch open.
Sorry to be slow in getting back on the mylar bags.

That's not a bad price at all, when you consider the cost of a firearm.
