Whats up guys....I'm a police officer and I was really considering the lasermax for my G21. I know that this topic is talked about all the time but I really need some convincing. I really like it for the intimidation factor but I hear so many stories of them breaking after a few rounds...then some say "I have 6,000 rounds through mine and not one problem. So who do i believe. I wouldn't rely on it 24/7, just in case it does break. I'm a very good shot with my regular night sights (TRIJICON) but my point is that I want my Glock to be like a Swiss Army Knife, if I need a certain tool, I got it...like night sights, M3 tac light, Lasermax? I'm countin on you guys.
thanx for all responses
I would recommend the Crimson trace ones. I have a lasermax on my 30 and the blinking laser is distracting. On the other hand the Crimson Trace website says a 21 must be a 3rd generation for it to work.
Lasermax sights are decent hardware, and by my measure have performed satisfactorally. I have one on my G22, G36, and one on the way for my G30. As long as you are aware of the following caveats, go ahead and get Lasermax sights.
Lasermax advantages:
Unobstructing - No need to buy special holsters.
Pulsating laser conserves batteries.
Lasermax disadvantages:
Switch is either on or off, with no momentary option. Constant on can give away your position.
Switch is difficult to opperate on the fly, (which is a must in a defensive situation.)
Hope that helps. :-)

Yes it does help. I just don't want to drop $299 and have it take a crap on me when I need it. As for the crimson trace, I'm not to crazy about them. Actually never really even considered them.
Had a Lasermax on one of my G30s. I thought it was great until I got it to the range.
I took it out of the gun as soon as I got home, and promptly sold it.

If you're going to be using the laser with your duty rig, concealment I would imagine will not be a factor. Therefore, I'd consider something like the Insight Technology M6X Tactical Laser Illuminator.
It would give you white light AND the option to put a dot on the target, and you shouldn't have a problem getting a holster made specifically for this setup.
Just my .02.

I do have better than 6000-rounds on a 3rd generation G21, equipped with a LaserMax. On one occasion, the unit turned itself on (BFD).
We do have better than 3000-rounds through Judy's 3rd generation G19, also equipped with a LaserMax. This unit has operated without failure.
The second LaserMax unit purchased (for the G19) was defective right out of the box--how it passed quality control is beyond me! Conversely, the replacement has been flawless.
You will note that refurbished Crimson Trace grips are occasionally offered, so they have their defects and returns too.
I did not want to change the grip angle of either gun, so the LaserMax appealed to me.
I absolutely like the pulsing beam, as it is easier to spot and track, at least for my tired eyes. :freak:
Both LaserMax units (purchased in November & February) are still on the original batteries.
I would say that if you are unlikely to replace OEM internal components with aftermarket ones--i.e., guide rod/recoil springs--the CT grips may be best for you. Conversely, many people readily swap out the OEM plastic guide rod/recoil spring with all-metal, high-performance replacements, and swear by them. Go figure.
The laser, any laser, is an additional tool, and not a replacement for the basics. But from all I've read, they can sure come in handy!
Here's an informative link: http://www.commtechreview.net/lawsec/index.html You will note at the left margin, both LaserMax and Glock have links of their own.
Best of luck with whatever you choose, and do be careful out there!

P.S. I've also equipped both G21 & G19 with night sights and X200's

I have a glock 21c with a lasermax in it. I have never had a problem with the laser at all. It has never failed to impede the cycle of operation of the weapon. As far as LEOs go the pulsed light also works well due to the fact the Tasers have a steady on beam so its easy for an officer to tell who has lethel and non lethel force. You dont have to worry about negligent discharge due to sympathetic reflex of gripping the handgrips. It will take a 6 foot drop to concrete inside the weapon and handle pressure to 66 ft underwater. If your paying 299 your paying to much go to the website and check on military/Leo pricing they can get you one cheeper.

Get it you will get good use from it, I have one on my Glock 30 and had one on a previous Glock I used to own, they both work flawlessly.

From my own experience with my lasermax, it really depends on what you want to do with it. Crimson Trace are adjustable for very accurate shots while the lasermax is not. If you are wanting a laser for accuracy and target shooting, get the crimson trace. If you are wanting something for duty, that the poa is within 2-3 inches from the poi, get lasermax.
I want a laser that fits internally but is also adjustable myself.

I have a lasermax unit on a g27. I have found it to be perfectly reliable and more accurate than I am. I really like the blinking too. I havent fired the Crimson trace (on a glock), but I like the idea of just grabbing the weapon to activate the laser. I dont think that I would take the time, or even remember to turn the lasermax on in a high stress situation. If I were to do it all over again, I would look seriously at the Crimson trace unit. Hope this helps.
Don't have a lasermax on my Glock, but do have one in my 9mm Sig 226. Have a few thousand rounds through that pistol, mostly range work though as it's not a carry weapon, but it's been flawless. Zero issues other than replacing batteries. They do have a suggested spring replacement interval but that varies based on weapon.

Just to clarify, LaserMax has reccomended spring replacement intervals just as the original manufacturers do. If you read your owner's manuals, you'll generally find that our intervals closely match those of the firearm's manufacturers. All springs age and lose their resiliency.

I have had LaserMax sights on my Glock 27 & 36 for several years and like it OK but I will go to a LAW-17 on my next Glock. My reasons are mostly concerns about the condition, cost and availablity of batteries for Laser Max. Also I don't like the blinking laser.
Lasers are good in some situations but I'd be sure to have night sights first becuase they will make a bigger difference in low-light situations. There have been times when I can't clearly see my laser light OR my iron sights. My Glock 21 and 33 both have night sights and I prefer this feature over lasers.
The $350 LAW-17 laser is permanently installed into your Glock frame. It has rechargeable batteries which are good for 7-8 years with free replacement. They can be recharged from an 9-volt battery in the field in five minutes. The laser is a continuous light activated naturally when you grip your weapon. The savings from LaserMax batteries will quickly make up for the extra $51 price tag.

Both of my glocks have lasermax and both are dead on. when you get one bench shoot it first,Then try it from your normal stance.the main thing this system will show you is how mutch you move when you pull that trigger.I also like the fact that you dont have to adjust it ,heck thats why i got glock. No complications!
