View Full Version : Folding Front Sight / ARMS SIR
This has probably been covered, and I should have searched, so pardon me for that. ;)
I saw a Barrett M468 at a gun show recently and really liked the way that the folding front sight fit in with the ARMS SIR on the rifle. It was a ring and post type front sight (HK-like) that folded flat with the SIR and was pretty much invisible from every direction but the top.
I am considering a SIR forearm for my next AR (I have an MI on the one I have now and like it), but haven't been able to find any info online about who makes the gas block and folding front sight on the barrett rifle. Anybody know?

Check Troy Industries.

Troy does not make an integrated front sight/gas block. They only make a rail-mounted front sight. The earlier versions of the Barret M468 look to have used some kind of proprietary folding front sight, and fit and finish looks pretty sloppy. I have seen some later versions of Barret's M468 upper using the PRI front sight/gas block. PRI probably makes the best integrated folding front sight/gas block.
I am currently running a YHM front sight/gas block. Like the PRI, it clamps onto the barrel, but uses two separate pieces instead of the one piece design of the PRI. I went with it because the YHM costs half what the PRI does and is still very robust. It serves its purpose well - a back up iron sight.

Looks like the PRI flip-up front sight to me.

No kidding. That's why I went with the YHM. It was $70 shipped from Brownell's with my discount. Some think it is bulky, but once it is on the gun it looks pretty normal. The nice thing about it is that it can be removed without taking the flash hider or handguard off the gun. Makes it real easy to clean/align/replace the gas tube. Here it is on my M-forgery:
It probably was the PRI that I saw...it seemed to fold in a little cleaner, but that could just be me. I guess if I decide to go this route, there will be a little bit of thinking required on this component.
The YHM definitely looks like an option as well.
Decisions, decisions.
