Which would be the optimal way to mount an EoTech on an AR? Would it be better to mount it directly on the rail and have flip up BUIS or get a Dominator type mount?

I put mine on a Yankee Hill (I think that's who made it) mount, it lets me mount it way forward where I like it.

Mine is mounted on a quick release GG&G Accucam which is directly mounted on the rail. This mount allows you to co-witness the sights.

Flip-up rear BUIS and a LaRue mount, which would co-witness in the lower 1/3, would be my preference.

Mine sits directly on the rail with an ARMS 40 behind it. Works for me.

As for BUIS, I like flip-up's, but some prefer the fixed.

I have my EoTech directly on the flat-top of the carbine, but if you want to raise it a little, either the YHM or Larue are good choices. The Larue is more expensive, but you get a quick detachable mount with repeatable zero.

YHM mount looks real good for $40. If you plan on taking it off alot then the Larue might be a better choice but exspensive.

Buying an expsensive mount for an Eotech defeats what is so great about the Eotech, no mount necessary.

to quote a friend of mine "if Larue is an option, Larue is the answer."

Yeah they cost a chunk of change, but they are a QD and return to zero. Plus they are built like tanks, and Larue is good folks.

A guy on Gunbroker sells them for $32. I got one just so I could mount it more forward than the rail allowed. A Troy BUIS works well behind it.

Killed myself with this question also. I finally just mounted mine directly on the rail. I could not be happier.

if your never gonna move it, then mounting it to the rails is the best way, unless you need it higher.

if you are going to take it on/off, Larue is the only option IMO

Buy the Eotech first, and get some training in with it. See how it works for YOU.

If you feel you need a riser, there are plenty of different ones out there that will work quite well for you. Something to consider with the riser is whether you will need to be removing it. If you are going to bolt it on, and take it off quite often, the Larue is a great choice. If not, other risers will work nicely.

One is the GG&G Accucam. Its a quick release quality product and has always returned me to the correct zero.

This is not a riser its a quick release system that uses the Eotecks own mounting hardware. I used one for a while it did not return to 0 for me. It was always about .5 to 1 inch off in windage from one dismounting to the next. Also it broke on me. Laraue is a better choice in my opinion.

I like the RRA Dominator EOTech Mount. The Dominator Mount is supposed to keep the iron sights (and they'll always be there) in the lower 1/3 part of the EOTech. This is the way I'm probably going to go! :) :rollsmiley:

That is what I'm leaning towards once my 552 shows up.

My eyes are naturally drawn to the center of the Eotech where the red dot is. That's why I co-witness there.

Mebbe I'm kerrazy or got something going on with my particular Eotech, BUT.......RRA Dominator Mount---Eotech---perfect center co-witness. Shot a tennis ball sized 5-shot group at 100 yds last weekend with Q3131.

I want to have my iron sights in the lower 1/3 or 1/4 of my EOTech when the EOTech dot is in the CENTER of the sight. I called RRA and they told me that the Dominator Mount will do this. Maybe I should keep looking for another set up then!

Ok, I'm a....uh, liar. The Eotech and my iron sights do co-witness perfectly, but in the lower 1/3rd, like RRA told you. Taking a pic is a major pain, but here it is. I hope this clears things up for you...it did me :whistling:

New York Hunter

plasticgunz, so if the "dot" is in the center of the EOTech the iron sights will be under the "dot" right? Thanks for the pic! :) :rollsmiley:

The dot in the center sits right at the top of the post of the front sight, right where you want your shot to go. You're welcome for the pic, sorry its not better. I need some work on my photography when it comes to small stuff.

What's funny is I'll probably be selling mine in the near future because I got myself an ACOG and I think I'll put the Eotech on my VEPR.

I sold my TA31 ACOG and kept my EOTECH. The Eotech is far better inside 100 yards. The acog only starts to shine over the Eotech past 100 yards.

Thanks for the opinion, I'll be shooting with both tomorrow so I'll see how I feel. I'm hoping I don't feel the same way actually, because I won't likely be able to get back what I paid for the ACOG. Or I'll do the other plan, build another AR!

It's going to be a while before I go with the EOTech/Dominator set up. I still have to change my upper receiver from the current A2 (carry handle) to the A4 (flat top). I wish I knew this is what I wanted to do when I bought my rifle. Instead of going with RRA's TASC Rifle w/ the mid length hand guard I would have got their CAR A4 w/ the mid length hand guard. Oh well, live and learn I guess. I never thought I'd like AR's as much as I do! :) :rollsmiley:

I mounted my ACOG on the flat top and mounted an EOtech on the Surefire rails with a 22 degree offset mount. I rotate the rifle counter clockwise to use the EO. Works excellent.

Please send a picture of this...I thought about this myself but seems to be too much hardware on one rifle.

Sorry I blew that one link. It was expensive. I have the rifle painted now. Looks excellent. I have spent a lot of money on it I spent more on less worthy projects.

Does anyone have a pic of a Eotech 512 mounted on the RRA Dominator mount? Just curious to see what it looks like mounted.

My pic is the co-witness view of this setup. If you want an actual pic of it mounted, I'll try and get one to you tonight.

That would be great. I just want to see if the 512 hangs off the dominator or how it looks exactly. Thanks.

For that kind of work, I want a TA31DOC, the one with the Dr. Optic mounted on top of it. Just lift your head up a little and look through the Dr. Optic red dot monunted on top.

The only thing holding me back is the $1450 price tag

PERFECT! Thanks for all the photos. I ordered my Entry Tactical about 3 weeks ago and won an auction for a 512 over the weekend. I ordered the rifle with the dominator mount, but I was still unsure if that's what I wanted. I'm feeling better and better about it. Thanks for the pics. I think I made the right decision.
