View Full Version : Whoo Hoo! New Big Dog gear
I work part-time at a gun range. We are required to carry. I had some cheapie stuff that got the job done, but not very comfortably. I was using a normal belt to hang all this stuff on as well. After 6 moths it has literally ripped apart. So I decided to do it right (besides it is a tax write-off since I am required to carry for my job). I ordered a Comp-Tac C-TAC Slide for my G21 and 30 (fits both), two of the Comp-Tac single mag pouches to go along with it, and a Wilderness polymer reinforrced instructors belt (should be here tomorrow).
So far I LOVE this holster. I put it on and walked around the house with some sitting thown in for good measure. It works great. I love the adjustability and versatility of it. I even put my G21 with the 6" KKM barrel in it. The end of the barrel winds up by my wallet, but it is not that uncomfortable while standing (sitting is a different matter ;) ). That works out great so I can use it at bowling pin matches.
The mag puches are basic and work very well. Both the holster and mag pouches have adjustable tension and are made of some really nice kydex (strong, but yet not thick).
If you have both of the big dogs like me (or both the 10mms), I HIGHLY recommend the CTAC Slide for it.

Amen to the CTAC, brutha!!!!
I went ahead and got one when I ordered my G30 (thanks to Glockster Paulie on the great deal and great service). It beat the gun here by a week.
I wasn't too sure at first. My old Sidearmor IWB (no longer made) was more comfortable, I thought.
Then the Dawg came in.
This holster actually feels best when loaded. Empty it's good, but put a 30 in there and it disappears. You can't even feel it. I don't even print in shirts (and that's with the extended 10-round mag, too.)
I can't even feel it on anymore.
Good stuff.

I was trying it with all different setups (all with loaded mags, but empty chamber since I was messing around with it). The 30 with the 9 rounder like I have in the pic disappears. The 21 stays hidden until I bend over and sit, then the grip pokes out.
I also like how it holds its shape for reholstering. I had an Uncle Mike's kydex IWB that gave me the willies to reholster while loaded. After some practice with this unloaded, I have confidence that re-holstering is not a problem.
I will be ordering more Comp-Tac stuff in the future. That little P3AT necklace holster looks kinda neat.

If you adjust the C-tac to sit at about 4:30 and cant it so the backstrap curve meets your side/back the gun disappears even if you bend over some. I've hidden a 30 with 10 round mag effectively for over 24 hours straight multiple times wearing a C-Tac.

Yup, that is what I do. ;)
The grip sticking out was with my 21 (with the stock barrel in place). That is the main reason I got a 30, for carry. I could conceal a 21, but the 30 is so much easier to do so.
BTW the 9 round mag is because my hands are too big and they do not allow for a comfortable grip on the 10 rounder as the grip is too short for a full grip and too long for a 4 finger grip. The 9 rounder allows a comfortable 4 finger grip and I actually shoot better with the 9 rounder because of that.
Anywho, I am going to a bowling pin match tomarrow. I will use the Ctac to carry my pin gun (the 21) while there and switch it out with the 30 for carry when I leave.
My Wilderness Instructors Belt showed up today too. This thing flat out rocks also. I paid extra for the polymer inserts and that thing is solid as a rock. They ship it with the test results from a lab that they had do a tensile strength test on their belts. They average around 7200lbs tensile strength. You could literally hang an SUV with one.
I am so glad I upgraded. The cheapie stuff just is not on the same level.
Now I am waiting for my 5.11 ATAC low boots. Hopefully they are nice and comfy as I am on my feet a lot at the range. The place I ordered them from scrwed up and did not tell me that the 14s are not availible in a wide (yes, big hands AND big feet  ). So they were waiting for a non-existant boot to show up. I called and got that straightened out and they should be sending me a regular width 14 ASAP.

Went to their site. Some nice looking stuff and slightly cheaper than the 5.11s. Thanks for the heads up.
Semi-off topic. My 5.11 ATAC 6" boots finally showed up. I like them a lot. I also got some 5.11 socks and they are sweet too (coolmax fibers and padded sole).
I can't wait until the range opens back up so I can try all my new gear out at work.

My new baby, Benchmade 610SBK Rukus. The largest folder BM makes. Over 10" OAL when open. ;)
Also after seeing another GTer's Wilderness Belt/CTAC setup at a bowling pin shoot, I might have to invest in some of the V-clips for it (the velcro ones). That was pretty slick.
Also while there I found out one flaw with my using the CTAC with my 6" barreled G21. About halfway through the day, when I holstered it, the barrel started to burn me. Duh, I completely forgot about guns getting hot from shooting. :brickwall:
I plan to buy a Comp-Tac Paddle Slide for that use in the future.
