View Full Version : A little help fella's...if you please.
Is it still illegal to have even one M-16 part in one's AR-15? Thanks in advance.
No. There are some you obviously can't have though. :)

Hey CG, how about the hammer, disconnector, and safety. I guess I should have asked straight out, so here goes. I was under the impression that the first President Bush passed a thingy that essentially made a persons AR-15 a machinegun if it had even a single M-16 part in it. Maybe I've been wrong all these years and I hope I am. I don't own an auto sear or anything. I just have an M-16 hammer, disconnect, safety, bolt carrier, and bolt that I'd love to put in an extra lower that I have. Thanks.
this is interesting,,,,,me to

Colt ships alot of their new AR15s with M16 carriers. The bolts are the same.
Concensus at the AR motherboard (AR15.com) is to not have ANY M16 Lower parts in your possession either in or out of the gun, but a M16 carrier in the upper is fine. "Constructive Intent" is where BATF will nail you.
I would either destroy or modify the M16 parts into AR15 configuration.
Bush 1 had nothing to do with the the M16 parts "thingy".
Thanks for the info, flatfender. I got rid of my M16 parts as I wouldn't want to show any "constructive intent."

It is legal to have M16 lower parts (except the auto sear) as long as you don't own a AR15. The auto sear according to BATF "is the machine gun", but the other parts are not. Confused? Legal Form 4 owners of M16s that also own AR15's cannot at the same time own spare M16 lower parts for their M16. Constructive Intent.
Just having the "3rd hole" drilled in a semi-auto AK-47 reciever turns it into a machine gun. Just the hole.
The BATF on one occasion ruled a 16" piece of shoestring an illegal machine gun because someone had it configured in a way to make a semi-auto rifle fire full-auto. Not the gun it was on, the shoestring. :freak:
