View Full Version : Thinking about a G36

I have owned my G30 for a very long time and have put nearly 20k rounds through it over the years. I alternate my CCW with my G30 and customized Colt 1911. I really don't mind the thickness of the G30 but I also never just forget about it like I do with my 1911, HK P7 or Keltech P32. Because of this I was thinking of purchasing a G36 but wanted to hear peoples opinions before I drop the cash.

Is the G36 all that and how does it compare the the reliability, accuracy and comfort of the G30? Thanks for your opinions.

I have a G36 and and previously owned a G30..My handguns are strictly for CC/self defense and if I have reliability problems, I get rid of them..Both are great guns..Accuracy is the same...The G36 is much easier to CC..Reliability, so far, I put about 1500 rounds thru the G36 and have had no problems..G36 recoil is not much different from the G30. Sometimes, I shoot 300 or more rounds during a practice session with the G36, easy day. BTW, I traded the G30 for the G36 because the G36 is easier to CC..

I purchased the G36 6 months ago. When I went to purchase this gun, I had three guns in mind... G36, G33, or G30. I played with all 3 and ended up going with the G36. The first thing I did was shoot it at the store which had an indoor range. It jammed right away. I was very upset in the fact that I just spent 550$ for a gun that doesn't work the way it should. I went back out into the store and purchased some Speer GD 200gr +P. The first stuff was some cheap Blazer Brass. The hot loaded stuff didn't show any problems at all. Since then, I have used just about everything and it all feeds, except for that damn blazer brass.... it just doesn't work.

I am going for my ccw class next month and am going to submit my app for the permit the following monday. I would have no problem carrying this gun as it is thinner and easier to hang onto for me. I prefer the feel of a 1911, but the cost is just too high for me at this point to get what I really want. And after putting close to 5K rounds though this gun in 6 months, I am in no hurry to get rid of it. I have never had another problem with this gun, except with that cheap ammo. I use my reloads most of the time, and they are the most accurate.

I wish I could tell you how it feels for CCW as in the weight of it, but I wont be able to for a little while later. There are a lot of people here though who do have them, but most of the time, they dont talk about them. Those that do, put down the G36 since it is the most troublesome GLOCK of them all. It is very unique in that is the only single stack, so you can only use g36 mags, and it is the hardest to shoot if you are not familiar with it. I have seen alot of threads here already since I have been here about people selling them before really breaking them in. After a couple hundred rounds, if you still have problems with it, then by all means get rid of it or send it back, but dont bash it cause after 100 rounds, you can not shoot it. I laugh everytime I hand it to friends, who shoot the G30 without any problems, and they either stovepipe it, or they say it hurts to shoot. On an average range trip for me, I put 300 rounds through it. I have never been recoil shy, and have been shooting since I was 13. I started with an HK USP .40... Since then I have shot alot of different handguns, and of them all... the G36 is by far my favorite.

Good luck with whatever you choose, but if you get a G36, give it a chance, it'll grow on you.

I picked up a new Glock 36 last winter. Right now I have a 29 and 22 as well. For me the 36 is the gun I will go to for winter carry. It packs easy and still has plenty of power. I shoot mostly ball ammo in mine and carry 230 Golden Saber for protection. It is a great little gun.

I like mine. I have put 14 different types, ball and HP, Cor-Bon through Wolf, of ammo through it with not a single malfunction.

You have an old 30 an you like it, get the 29 because you are comfortable with it and it has great ballistics. I like the Kel-Tec P32 that I own and my Kimber Custon II. Carry the P7 unless it is yo collectors piece. I do not have own but would love to get the P7M13, a friend of mine has 3 and 4 P7's. Lucky person

Some of the 36's have feeding problems with wide-mouth hollow points such as Gold Dot and Cor-Bon. Glock must have originally thought that this is a feed ramp problem (that's why they "upgraded" the feed ramp). But it's really a problem of how high the magazine can be seated in the grip. If you get a good 36 (one that seats the magazine high enough), it'll eat anything you feed it. If you get a bad one, the only food it'll eat is ball ammo.

I just purchased a brand new G36 that was made in 2002. The serial number starts with "EW". I spoke with a glock rep. and he told me the feed ramps were only a problem on the D series G36. Hope this helps. If you have a question just call their customer service.
