Sorry for the stupid question but I inherited a 79 Ford F150 V-8. Where can I look on the truck to find out? Not sure if its a 302 or 351 or what. Thanks in advance.

The VIN should tell you.

Tried the VIN on CarFax & because it only has 11 numbers it shows invalid #. So no good there.

Try looking at the inside of the door panel.

Try looking at the radiator support.

Try looking at the title, maybe?

Get the Hanes/Chilton manual at Autozone/Napa/Checker and it'll have pictures of the different engines. Odds are that the belts are oriented differently, or the carburetor is different, or something evident is different.

Most of the 79's I've owned had 351ci engines. The early 80's 1/2 tons were lighter (than the 70's) and more frequently used the 302ci.

You've got to be joking right?

Most older Fords should have a sticker on the radiator support or the drivers side valve cover.

If there's a sticker under the hood showing the belt diagram, it should say on there somewhere.
