I'm looking to pick 19d as my mos, can anyone describe the job? also how hard is it to cross train into a different mos?

<----not a Cav Scout, so just an FYI.

With the creation of many new RSTA units in the Army, there will be quite a few assignment options for 19Ds.

Cross train to what?

IMHO Infantry and Scouts are the base for all combat arms jobs. Its easy to do other jobs if you know the Infantry/Scout job, but a Scout wont get you really cross trained.

The job now is more security and survelence. The M2 Bradley's are fadeing and Hummves are becomeing the norm for vehicles (some use Strikers and some use there feet).

Scouts are the eye's and ears of the HQ's. But they also fill in where needed. Convoy security and reconing routs is a large part of todays Scouts in combat.

The mission is not to make contact and fight the enemy, but to spot them first and send some else in to take them out.

well my mos 19d was approved and paperwork was signed off by a cav commander. Now waiting to schedule meps for a physical. Since I took the ASVAB in 97' i don't have to take it again. Its good for 10 years.

Yep, there are going to be a lot of new scout slots opening up. When my battalion reorganizes.... next week.... almost every slot will be 19D.

I haven't gone to school yet, and I ain't looking forward to it.

well i didn't get the 19d but picked up 25c radio operator/maintainer. Meps said i was color blind but the dude doing the falant test screwed me. I'll probably retest for the hell of it. Shipping off 4 sept 06 to Ft. Benning then to Ft, Gordon for ait.

ArmoredGlock, Good Luck and Thank You. :patriot:

Biscuits, are you going to the National Guard RC reclass, or are they sending you to an AC school?

Also, have you been to WLC yet? Did you ever get your E5?

From what I've seen of you here on GT, your unit is lucky to have you and should be taking care of you.

Thanks for the kind words.

I assume it'll be a National Guard class when I go, but I don't know yet. It looks like I'll have to wait until I graduate next spring before I'll have time to go to the school.

I can probably get the WLC as soon as I ask for it, so I may go to both schools almost back-to-back.

No E5 yet, since you have to be MOS-q to get promoted. Since there are no tank slots left, there is no way for me to get promoted until
I reclass.

If I'm not mistaken you can be promoted, but you have 1 year to become MOSQ before you lose your rank.

Maybe they can, but it doesn't mean they will.

Besides which, they lost most of the paperwork again this year. ALL the paperwork for the ENTIRE brigade was lost last year, so exactly 0 people were promoted.

The same thing happened to a whole bunch of guys in my unit when they went. We've lost a whole bunch of Specialists since those guys came home, too- transfers or ETS.

I was a 92A (yeah, yeah, I know) in my old unit. I got WLC knocked out in March and had my Commander's and 1st Sergeant's recommendation but there wasn't anywhere for me to go without reclassing to 74D.

I ended up transferring to the Air Guard doing the same job, but into an E5 slot. I'll get more MOS/AFSC experience there and my E5 should come within a year.

My plan's to stay for 20, so I can be an E6 supply guy in the Air Guard or eventually put in my Warrant packet and go back to the Army.

Anyway, good luck to you.
