Greetings fellow glockers.
My G17 is currently loaded with Winchester Ranger 147gr.SXT jhp's.In spare mags, I have some Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P and Corbon 125gr. +P.
What are some of your favorite loads for the G17?
My G17 is usually loaded with Federal 9BPLE, 115 gr +P+. Not because I think it's a magical bullet, but I got a bunch of it given to me. It feeds and fires flawlessly, has a good reputation on the street and is quite accurate to boot.

vafish, the 9BPLE is another load with a verified street reputation.I have 2 boxes of them that I haven't test fired yet.
Have heard even the 9BP(standard pressure)does pretty well.

cowboywannabe, which 147gr. loads do you like to use, if you don't mind me asking?

the sthp by win, in spite of the nay sayers. but my S.O. issued me federals hi-shok.
ive had good "backyard" results with wwb too.
i have a box of the ranger 127+p ive kept after shooting some....but the recoil was more noticable and i could shoot the 147s faster with accuracy.

I also use 147 gr WWB JHP. Cheap enough to practice with, and good expansion... .62" in water and very reproducible. This round has more power than the subsonic cartridges and I've read tests indicating good penetration. Best to carry the same round you practice with.... no surprises.
Speer Gold Dot 9mm Luger +P 124gr GDHP 23617.

I never feel under-gunned with this round. I had some Winchester Rangers for a while but they're hard to find around here so I just started buying Speer.

First mag is Federal EFMJs, firing on a junk auto hood at a very shallow angle leaves a 12ga slug sized hole. Second mag is homebrew 124gr GDs at about 1260fps. :)

I use what ever UPS damages when shipping to me for the most part. More often than not I have the RA9T since it is my prefered load. But some times I have the other Ranger or Federal Tac loads.

I think im either useing some ranger 127 grain +P+, or I am using some 124 grain Golden Saber. Both would do the job I am sure. I really like my G17.

I use Gold Dot 124gr. in standard psi due to I heard they do better than +P as far as penetration goes.

While I prefer other loads (HST/GD/Rangers), I have no problem using WWB 147gr. JHP from a G17.

Has anyone seen any tests in which the "premium" rounds are shown to be any better (in penetration, expansion, etc.) than WWB 147 gr JHP?

Every test I can recall seeing shows the premiums better by at least a small margin, mostly in expansion. The premiums really perform better through barriers. But is it enough to make a difference?
Who knows.

vafish, do you have links to any of the barrier tests? Here are some expansion tests that show the WWB 147gr. JHP in a pretty good light.
Expansion from a G17 barrel (http://www.btfh.net/shoot/bullet-test-1-results.html)
T-shirt test (http://www.btfh.net/shoot/bullet-test-3.html)
Actually, for more bang for your buck...the WWB 147gr. looks real good. Just picked some up.

my dept. issues the g17, and the dept. issued load just went to the fed. 147gr. HST Hi-Shock(not hydra).
i have my own g17 and loaded it with 147gr. before joining this dept.
so this combo is one i feel very comfortable with and more importantly i am very profecient with also.....

Currently my G17 is loaded with 18rds. of Corbon DPX.
what is a good online company to get DPX from?
someone who actually has it in stock?
For general field work in the hills around the camp, feral dogs ,coyote, groundhog a 115gr. Hornady XTP over 8.5 grs of Bluedot good for around 1320-1350 fps. IT puts bad dogs and coyote, groundhog down fast like a laser bolt. The XTP bullet opens and penatrates very well. IN factory loads I like the WW 127+P+,ww personel defence 115hp or 147gr hp. I prefer the XTP handload in the G17 its dead accurate and powerfull load. For CCW the factory load or the XTP handload. THe Hornady XTP is a solid performer even on deer size game. THe bullets expands and holds together and feeds perfect. Wonder if anybody loads this bullet factory?

place your order on-line with them anyway.....they will have it to ship before any distibutor does....
when i get my 640-1 back from s&w im going to order 3 boxes of the magnum DPX...@ $30.00 per box its all i can afford....the 1st box to get used to the recoil and get the "feel" of how it shoots in the gun, the 2nd box for accuracy testing so i know how it shoots at 3,7, and 15 yards in my gun, and the 3rd box for carrying.....
it supposed to give the best magnum performance round in a snubby without the excessive recoil.....

Corbon load their 90gr, 115gr, and 125gr 9mm offerings with Sierra Power Jacket hollowpoint bullets.
I prefer the Winchester Ranger 127gr+P+-excellent round, and another plus is that the cases are nickle-plated against corrosion.
Best, Jon
i prefer a frangible load. i have my daughter in the next room and the last thing i need is to miss and have the bullet go through the wall and hit her. the frang is the safest projectile and not bad 4 stopping power, either. glazers are the only ones that i know of, but i am sure that other cartrige companies make a frang. good luck.

Recently tested the Corbon DPX load in the G17.The recoil was STOUT compared to other 9mm defensive loads.Flawless function in the G17, of course. Will definitely pick up some more Corbon DPX.
For now, my G17 is loaded with Federal HST 147gr.
