I'm thinking that I'd like a fine German PP or PPK. Of course that means I've got to do some looking and some risk taking... Not that I haven't done that before - and been rewarded many times (disappointed only once).

Now I'm thinking... What about the Sig P230 or P232? The latter is still in production and the former can still be found LNIB (if not NIB) for a very reasonal price.

Michael T., I know you must have an opinion of this one... ;)

I used to have the sig. It was a great gun. Reliable, shot ok, and really nothing to complain about. I honestly recomend the walther ppk. In my experience, they have shot better than the sig, they look better, function %100 and i dont think there is much of anything that is easier to pack. It is one of the classic handguns of all time.

I have owned a Walker PPK (newer Smith import) and Sig P232 - had both at the same time and spent some range time with both.

I honestly liked the Sig P232 better. The sights were easier for me to pick up, the gun felt better in my hand and due to those reasons I shot the gun better.

I havent looked up the specs but the Sig P232 felt lighter.

The only downside is heel magazine release but it took me only a short time to get used to it.

I think the Sig P232 is a fine gun.....

That could be due to the longer sight radius, barrel and grip (compared to the PPK).

The one I'm looking at has an alloy frame as I think they all did except for the stainless model.

The only downside is heel magazine release but it took me only a short time to get used to it.
This makes what could be a one handed operation a two handed one. It is the one thing I don't like about the pistol.

What I do like is the frame mounted decocker instead of the slide mounted safety/decocker.

Thanks, everyone, for the feedback.

There is absolutely no comparison between the Sig P230/232 and the Walther PP/PPK. Walther set the benchmark. Sig just tried to imitate and copy. Gun magazines have compared the Sig 230/232 to the Walther PPK for quite sometime. They are always using an American made model for comparison (sub-standard quality). When one is comparing the Sig to the German made Walther's, there is a high distinction between fit, finish, balance, and accuracy, with the Walther easily winning.

Therein may be my mmisconception, by compariung only US made PPs, PPK/Ss and PPKs to the P230. Though today I shot a circa 1950 Walther PP (.32 ACP) alongside all the others and the best two were the German PP (.32 ACP) and the P230 - in terms of accuracy and trigger (though the DA trigger onthe German PP was heaviest of all).

The Interarms and S&Ws fell in somewhere behind. There were 3 of us shooting. All among the best in the club and all Walther and Sig owners... We all shot the German PP the best the Sig P230 second and ... interestingly enough the S&W PPK next - better than the Interarms PPK/S and PPK...

Michael T., I sure this is a fluke... :freak:

 Iam here .I haven't shot the sig. I have handled and being a lefty found the decocker in my way. It also won't fit in my pocket and The trigger felt about a 1/2 in futher out than the Walthers. I really felt like I was reaching The mag release isn't to my likeing on a gun this size Ok, on a Seecamp or my Bauer
I think, I would, might, even buy, a S&W PPK/S before a  Sig.
Least that way I have a duel weapon. A pistol and when empty Remove slide and you have a back up razor.

 There is absolutely no comparison between the Sig P230/232 and the Walther PP/PPK. Walther set the benchmark. Sig just tried to imitate and copy :hugs:

I just shot a german pre war ppk today along side one of my newer ones. What are the quality differences everyone keeps talking about? The trigers were about the same...not real great, and both shot real well and didnt jam.

A collector is crying somewhere you SHOT a pre war PPK.
The difference is Made IN Germany . And we ALL KNOW THAT GERMAN MADE CARS ARE BETTER THAN OURS ALONG WITH GERMAN MADE GUNS. I MEAN OUR STUFF IS JUST CRAP.
We won both wars so I guess our toys are BETTER.

Hmm... I may be nuts, but I think the 230/232 has superior sights, better lines and a better trigger. Either way, I wouldn't pick a .380 heavier than a Seecamp as a carry gun, not when full-powered guns are available in the same size envelope.

Nor would I personally, but as an instructor I'm interested in options for my students (many of them women). So "the largest caliber in the smallest package that you can control" may end up being someting like the P232. It is hard though to carry the P232 when you could be carrying a .40 in a smaller lighter package... given you can deal with it.

Agreed the Seecamp 380 package is pretty awesome.

I like seecamps but 2 yr waiting list and a price tag that will buy a Colt 1911. Also a blowback and sharp recoil. You can get a KelTec 380 for around $250. Lighter just as accuret ( I did a 3 shot group 1 1/2" at 21' 1 handed) and not a blow back design. The new Gen 2 are very dependable. In fact I have 3 of the little KT now.All have been perfect with ball or HP
