As much as I loved my G33 I just found myself never carrying it. My G29 IWB with my Sidearmor is perfect. That said I decided to let it go, with my new found fortune and breaking my own rule (never sell a gun to get a new one) I decided to order a G30. Being a fan of DT ammo Mike's .45 loads look great and rekindled my fondness of the .45acp some time ago, plus with his new .450smc and more and more commercially available 45super loads I feel its just as good as my every day carry......plus with me being use to the size and having a holster that can carry both I feel it was a natural transition for a second-primary carry....if that makes sense. ;)

Anyone here carry .45supers in their Glocks for CCW or do most stick with the traditional .45acp? Im so use to the recoil of the 10mm I would find it a bit inconsistant to carry anything but full house .45 loads. PGH~

I love my G30 and everytime I shoot it I love it more. It's been extremely reliable and I find the recoil no problem with full power 230 gr loads. I also find it quite accurate. I personally use 230 gr Hydrashoks for my HD and CCW carry. I haven't tried any .45 super because it just seems like a little too much power. But hey, if you can shoot straighter with it, that's what matters most. I also recommend the 230 gr Speer Gold Dots. Good, accurate, reliable rounds.

Here's to buying a great Glock! :drink:

I like the G30, although i must admit i like my 1911's more. But to answer your question, Yes, i stick with the 45acp for carry. The little G30 is a really nice gun to shoot, and very accurate, handles well, and is pleasant to shoot, not any recoil to me.

I use Rem. 230gr. Golden Sabers, or 230gr. Speer Gold Dots.

Thanks for the replies guys, I will probably stick with DT or maybe try out the HST's as I have really been impressed with the consistancy of expansion with this bullet type. I'm definately going to try some supers and Mike's SMC loads when they come out just for giggles. PGH~

You may want to try out the 230 HST +P. It is the hottest ACP load I have tested in my Glock 36.I would think the 30 would be a good platform if one wanted to run with the +P.

I do not recommend .450smc or .45super out of the 30. I load .45super and it is a bit too much for the Glock 21. The problem is slide mass. The slide speed is way too high with a stock G21 slide. I had a 24# recoil spring and it was still denting the crap out of the brass on the way out and launching the brass into the next zipcode. I got failures to feed due to excessive slide speed as well. I now shoot .45super sxclusively out of my Glock 21 with an Oberland Arms 6" longslide. With a 22# spring it seems to be doing a lot better. I still get an occasional failure to feed which does not happed with the regualr pressure loads.

.45super is fun, but it isn't a simple drop in a heavier recoil spring and everything runs like clockwork. Everything about the gun was designed for regular pressure and some +p .45acp. The spring weights, the slide mass, the chamber, etc. .45super/.450smc is running at a 30% higher pressure than regular .45acp.

Carry either regular pressure or +p ammo (stay away from +p+ as that can mean anything) from a well respected ammo manufacturer and you will be fine. I am carrying regular pressure 230gr. Federal HSTs now and they function great. I have function tested and carried Golden Sabers, Gold Dots, and Hornady TAP +P (all 230gr.) and all worked great (the Golden Sabers don't flash, but they do spark).

Also regarding the DT .45acp loads. be careful people have posted pics of the fired brass of the DT laods after shooting them out of a Glock 30. There was some pretty nasty buldging in the cases right where the feed ramp is (another reason to not shoot .45super out of a stock barreled Glock, I use a 6" KKM). The unsupported barrel works great with regular pressure rounds that it was designed to use and helps give the round a more of a straight shot into the chamber when loading, but when over pressured they can cause some nasty buldges. DT claims their load is not +p, but judging from their pics I would have to question that claim. I have shot +p Federals and some others out of both of my .45acp Glocks with the stock barrel and nothing like that ever happened with them.

Despite what some 10mm fanatics may tell you, you do not need a hand cannon to defend yourself with. I load and shoot .45super, but I carry regular pressure .45acp (if the +P TAP was cheaper, I would carry it as they do not recoil anywhere near as bad as most +Ps do).

BTW I cannot wait for the DT .450SMC. My G21L will love it. I am hoping he can get at least 1150fps with a 230gr. bullet out of a 5" barrel, as I have gotten 1200fps with the same bullet out of my 6" G21L.

Believe me when I say I know a hand cannon is not the best way to go for a CCW. I am so use to my G29 with full 10 loads that I will definately be using hotter .45acp loads for carry just for consistancy. I wouldn't ever carry the supers or the smc's because they were not designed just for the weapon, but I think they will be a blast to shoot. I know a few people who have shot Buffalo Bore supers with no bulging or dented brass using a 22lb spring in their G30. Obviously it shouldn't be a routine, but with an aftermarket barrel to help out the 6 position and a heavy spring it shouldn't be an issue for some range fun.

After further research on the HST round I feel that is going to be my carry load in a +P configuration for when I do carry my G30. PGH~

Just be careful and check for slide peening.

+P HSTs sound like an excellent choice for carry.

BTW I load my .45supers hotter than BB. ;) I have chronoed them. Mine are on the verge of buldging the cases. I worked it up too high then back off a smidge.

Nice!, just curious if you did any testing with them? Wetpacks, jugs, gelatin, MBM? I am curious to see how the JHP bullets integrity holds up at those velocities. Possible over expansion or fragmentation? PGH~
