I just received an email from Art out to Silver State Armory re: the regular and combat loads for the 6.8 SPC.

These numbers are from a 16 inch bbl, so if you shoot from a 22 incher, you can add a good 175 fps or so per Art

The combat loads are pretty hot.

Standard load in left column, combat in right.

Prices are the same for standard and combat load from Silver State direct.

Yes we make what we call combat loads, but all guns can not handle them. See below.

Projectile Commercial Velocity from a 16” Barrel Combat

1. Barnes Triple Shock 110 grains 2,715 FPS 2,820 FPS

2. Sierra Match King 115 grain 2,625 2,700

3. Sierra Pro-Hunter 110 grain 2,625 2,750

The commercial rounds will work in most weapons but the Combat Loads must be used in guns that are chambered properly and in the case of AR’S they also must have good timing. Our Combat loads have been tested in weapons that go full auto without failures. You will see some flattening of the primers and a slight shinny spot at the ejector but will not have metal extrusion or ejector marks on the rim.

If you require additional information please feel free to contact us.

IMHO SSA is taking a risk selling those combat loads.

I just shot 20 rds of the combat loading of the 115fkj. Shooting it out of a noveske built 6.8 upper. It blew 40% of the primers right out of the case. Not a lil flattening of the primers, not a lil spot on the extractor, but primers completely blwon out, stopping the gun in its tracks.

I'm not sure what kind of gun they are made for, but if the primers blow out from a noveske, I think it may be a lil too hot.

YMMV

That's pretty scary. I am going to try it out of a Rem 700. I guess I should contact Rem and ask about it.

This is the emil I got from Art:

Do the cartridges have large rifle primers and does the box have a white square checked for the X-Treme. If so you have what we call our combat loads. Those rounds were designed around a chamber that has more free-bore which decreases the pressures without lost velocity.

Best regards,

Art

I'm not sure what he means by more free-bore. I guess it means a more sloppy chamber?

Hey, TimP

If what you are saying about the markings on the box and large primers indicating combat loading, then I have already put 20 rounds of the combat loads downrange and have another box of 20. I have to say they performed beautifully in my Rem 700. I shot them right after putting 20 rounds of Remington FMJ downrange. I felt that the SSA was just a tad hotter, but not an issue at all,and was quite accurate.

I am waiting on 100 rnds of the soft point from Art.

I beleive I did buy the SSA ammo from SG last time.

I have secured some reamer spec sheets for the 6.8 if anyone wants them. I also have the SAMMI spec sheet if anyone wants them. They are small PDF files.

there are 2:
1: Standard/match
2: Freebore to shoot the combat SSA loads.
