View Full Version : ar see thru mount question
I just got my A.R.M.S. #40 Flip-up Rear Sight and was wondering if there is a see thru scope mount for the ar that would let me use the scope as well for long range. If there is where can I get it?
thanks

This would sort of defeat the purpose......get QD rings.
not really... I want to be able to mount a long range scope, and Iron sites for 0-300 yrds.

The purpose of fold down sights is so you can get a proper cheekweld and use the scope. If the scope goes dead/busts etc, if it's a dotscope, you see right through it. If it's a variable scope, remove it with the QD rings. Takes all of 2-5 seconds.
Raising the scope up over the sights would require either a different stock, or leave your head hanging in midair trying to aim.
If you're only shooting to 300m, use a dot scope like the Aimpoint, and if the scope dies (highly unlikely, and I've abused mine on duty far more than you ever likely will), flip up the rear and keep shooting.
If you're shooting over that, what do you consider "long range".....most ARs reasonably can do 500m, that's about it. Are you shooting tiny paper bullseyes, coyotes, antipersonnel?
I've got a see thru scope mount that is for the A2 type upper only (attatches to hole in carrying handle) Many manufactures do make scope rings that are QD with "see thru" bases so you get the best of both worlds.
