I am interested in replacing my stock G23 sights with some night sights. On the Meprolight website they offer both screw on and stake on version. Can anybody explain the difference. Also, do you recommend all dot to have the same color or to mix colors. Thanks for your input.

Stake-on will require a special tool; screw-on requires only a thin-walled nut driver (a "special tool" but a relatively inexpensive one). I wouldn't buy anything but screw-on front sights for a Glock.

I would go with the screw-type of sights. I think the stake-on sights can twist and knocked out of alignment.

+1! Definitely screw-on.

so far meprolight seems to be the most recommended for Glocks; my local dealer only sells and installs trijjicon; any major opinions on one versus the other?

Both work well as night sights. I prefer the plastic rings on Mepros versus the painted-on rings of Trijicons for daytime shooting -- they are more durable.

I like the OEM Meps on my G21; and while the front sight is staked on, I do not holster the gun and it hasn't come loose in some 6500 + rounds. The white rings are indeed inserts and the tritium ampoules are the brightest I have--brighter than Trijicon's or XS's. Purchasing aftermarket, I would prefer a threaded front sight, as I get a shot at using it on another gun, if I choose.

For the Trijicons, they're certainly bright enough; the lamps are fine points vs. big glowing orbs, thanks to a sapphire focusing lens. The white markers are also sharper. I've had no problems with the painted markers using Hoppe's Elite and/or lens cleaner, plus a blast of canned air. A silicone gun cloth doesn't bother them either. They are equally well made, with a threaded front sight. The front blade on the Trijicons is much thinner than the Mep's, making them better range sights, for sharper shooters.

As for the XS', they're also great, if you can get used to the sight picture. The Big Dot is a white insert, and threads on. The night illumination is comparable to Trijicon's in brightness and sharpness.
