I have heard that many of the cheap red dot scopes are not very useful in the daytime - the sun apparently washes out the dot totally.

This BSA Multidot Reflex site - anyone have any experience w/ it? WOuld it work on an outdoor range? Just trying to find alternatives to the expensive Eotech...

Red dot scopes work fine in daylight, just turn up the intensity. Lasers, however, are not very visible in sunlight.

If you are going to get one just fork the money and get an aimpoint, trijicon, or eotech. Is the hot summer any of those are easily seen.

Well, I might possibly buy a Beretta Storm carbine. If I did, I was gonna try to spend $100 or less for the best red dot I could get. I've heard that the $30 BSA one is WAY washed out in the sun...

I have the $30 BSA red dot and it works fine on my 10/22 in daylight.

Ok, good to know. I saw someone say theirs didn't work well outside about a year ago. Maybe they had a bad one...

I paid $196.00 (delivered) for a Superior Precision Optic Technologies (SPOT) Mark III - 3MOA red dot scope for my AR-15. It works fine. But then again... I didn't spend $29.98 at Wal*Mart either.

You do get what you pay for. I'm not expecting mine to perform like en Eotech or anything. I'm just plinking and target shooting. I don't think I need a $400 red-dot scope at this time. But, I also don't think buying the $29.99-$49.99 red dot scopes I saw in Cabela's Shooting '06 (and Reloading) catalog, would do well for me.

Ahh... boys with their toys!

That's just my opinion... I could be wrong.

Spend the money, get the Aimpoint. It doesn't wash out (use one every day on an M4 in daytime.....lots of experience with that one).

I bought the BSA, 42 mm red dot when it was on half price from Natchez a while back. I think the model is RD42.

I put it on a S&W Model 22A semiauto 22. I really like the red dot. It has improved my shooting with this pistol tremendously. I have no regrets. I have not had a problem shooting in the bright sun. The LED has 11 levels of brightness and that seems adequate for me.

Considering that the sight's sole function is to project an image of a red LED into the center of a 1X unmagnified optical sight, I think I would feel taken spending an awful lot of money on one of these. Bu then, I have never seen the sense of spending more on a sight than on the gun.

I just learned the bad thing about red-dot scopes! Accidentally leaving the dot turned on when storing your weapon. Oh well. The SPOT Mark III claims a 150 our battery life. I know I used it for several hours at the range, but haven't taken it out of the bag in a week. Sheesh... they should have any automatic timeout! :)

Go with an aimpoint...no need to turn it off at all. The light will be on when you come back next week. Or next month.

Or get an EoTech...1,100 hours on the battery with AA.

Cheap optics, cheap performance.

Why your at it don't get the pistol caliber carbine get a good .223 carbine instead. No sense in having a 6 pound pistol with a shoulder stock attached that't can't fit in a holster.
