Without knowing which keyboard, we might not be able to easily help you.

I use a wireless kbd and have a Mute button as well as volume up/down buttons on the keyboard. If these exist on your keyboard and are activated, give it a try.

If not, click on the speaker icon in your lower right tray, open it up and adjust (or un-mute) the sliders appropriately.

it may have used a program which used to run in the background when you started up your computer.

start -> run -> msconfig -> startup

and see if anything looks unchecked which may pertain to a keyboard.

But it does not give me an indication( green vertical lines)

Now clicking on the icon gives a volume graphic again.

Maybe it has something to do with all the error messages

in the other post.
